Hello All.....Since i started Zytiga and Prednisone in February this year.. I have been slowly gaining weight....Is there something I can take or do to offset this condition.

Another issue has been shortness of breath....I do see in the side effects paperwork

that this is one of the conditions.....any help or suggestions welcome.

You are probably also doing ADT (Lupron) along with the Zytiga..It's the adt that carries the major side-effects including weight gain..The solution is more exercise and less eating.. or at least less calorie intake..

Exactly, I've dramatically reduced eating at restaurants (Boston area, really sucks!), as most of them just reheat processed "pre-packaged" foods anyway. Also, I've added longer "fasting" periods, for example, nothing after 8 PM until 11 AM next day.

Note: Was getting unusual side effects (mental state) from the evening Prednisone ( 5 mg ) dose. My MO suggested take it earlier, afternoon instead, it helped bit time...

Exercise is paramount, weight lifting is great counter to ADT muscle loss effects. I like using battle ropes for high intensity-low time intervals, it shreds the fat without spending much time in gym.

Look into taking Melatonin (pre-diabetes type 2 drug) , it does help with weight management and evidence for fighting prostate cancer as well.

Agree with the exercise and be very vigilant about what we eat.

I take the pred in the morning with breakfast. That might help, eh?

I see an oncological nurse every month. Each time, I mention the weight gain, and seek advice for how to cope, and get . . . . nothing. My wife tried putting me on a diet with cabbage and cauliflower instead of rice and potato, and without bread (I am gluten intolerant, and for years have been avoiding biscuits [cookies to my North American colleagues] and pasta). She joined me in it. The result was that she had to see a GP because of bowel pains -- apparently due to all the gas from eating brassicas. My exercise comprises walking, as I live among glorious Welsh countryside. But the slow weight gain continues. Surely this is unsustainable indefinitely.

Hi Shadow. I am doing adt (lupron every 3 mos. and casdex daily. As soon as I started I gained 20-25 lbs. Doc said its because of lack of testosterone.

I started Aberaterone and Prednisone in March and I walk 4 to 5 miles a day with weight training mixed in. Weight is about the same with a little pooch on my belly ( never had) skin feels different . I’ve had people say my face looks thinner , maybe some bone density lost. I had a bone dense which was normal so far . Keep exercising!!
