Hello, first time poster here. Curious if anyone here is participating in the trial study Phase 3 of Androgen Annihation in High-Risk Biochemically Relapsed Prostate Cancer. I am just starting my 3rd month of the Arm C portion of study. It consists of a shot of Degarelix once a month in the stomach along with 4 pills of apalutamide with prednisone and 4 pills of abiraterone with prednisone once a day.

Quick summery of my condition. Diagnosed in 2014 (age 47) PSA of 22. Biopsy showed 12 cores positive. Gleason 8. Lymph nodes showed negative during surgery but further study showed slight cancer in left side. PSA after surgery was 2.1 so put on Lupron for 2 years. That lowered PSA to "undetectable ". Taken off and 2 years later PSA raised to 13.4. Scans show now mets so doc thought I was a good candidate for this study.

So anybody on this and how are you responding. Also how are the side effects? My last PSA was at a .3 with no fatigue from meds, only hot flashes witch are bearable. Sorry so long and thanks for your time. Love the site, very informative.

Scott

It's a great study. If you had no distant mets, why didn't you have salvage radiation?

I don't know. I kinda just went along with what my oncologist recommended. But since reading this site I just had an appointment yesterday and brought that up asking why we didn't hit it with radiation right away. He says that may be an option later.

Sadly, the KIND of doctor we talk to dictates the therapies we get. That's why I always advocate talking to a radiation oncologist about radiation oncology issues and a medical oncologist about medical oncology issues. I always think it's a good idea to exhaust curative options (like salvage therapy) before moving on to non-curative options (like maintenance with hormone therapy.

I think that's especially true with a younger man.
