My husband was diagnosed with Prostatic Cancer 2011 can't recall,gleason score off hand but his PSA was 45.7 in March and with alternative treatments, radiation, Lupron his PSA decreased to normal in 5 months.
Sadly this year PSA went up to 18 in January and by end of Summer Stage 4 Boney mettastic cancer.
He is currently on Prednisone, Zytiga,Flomax, casodex. I am so sad, March will be our 40 Th anniverery, God,s willing. He is in a lot of pain, poorly controlled with Tylenol # 3, Percocet and Ibuprofrn.
I am happy to find your group and looking forward to sharing what we are learning and hearing from you men on how to better support and care for my husband.

Hi, my name is Lynn,....my husband has stage four prostrate cancer, his also went to the bone. I don't think over the counter pain medication work's for there kind of pain? At times my husband has been prescribed pain medication. He did have several radiation treatments that helped to shrink the tumors and it did relieve the pain? Does your husbands oncologist say anything about radiation ?Every ones cancer is different and I wish I be of more help. My husband was also on casodex and a needle Lupron every three months after that quit working, he was put on Zytaga, Xtandi, this past year chemo. And more radiation. Now they found a cancerous lymph node. We go this coming Friday to a surgeon for a biopsy. I just recently found this group, and so happy I did, please know everyone is here for you. I know how you feel. Stay strong, have the faith and there are so many treatment's they can do today for prostrate cancer. It's not easy for us caretakers to watch our wonderful husbands suffer. My husband started this journey at age sixty five, he is now a very young seventy four? care and Let us know how your husband is doing.
Hi Lynn, Sorry to here what both of you are going through. This monster affects not only the one with this terrible disease but also their partner as well. I haven't went through what your husband is going through but I couldn't help notice our similarities. I too was diagnosed early 2011. My psa was 44 and Gleason score (4+3).
Just Friday I had my three month check up a 2 point rise in October. This time I had a 6.2 rise to 9.8. Waiting for scan results now. I have only been getting 6 month Lupron shots.

Thank you Thomas, almost ten years to the day when my husband started this journey, he had for weeks on end a terrible pain in his shoulder to his elbow, stubborn that he is I finally got him to go to the dr. Long story short it was a tumor that that had wrapped around the bone. His PSA was four hundred and eight three. They operated and saved his arm, he went up until this past year on casodex, hormone needle and radiation on arm his bone tumors. This past year the cancer came back with a vengeance, tumor grew up from the prostrate and blocked his kidney tubes, again operated on and had nerostoumy tubes for six months, which they were able to remove, had radiation, chemo and just this last cat scan they found one cancerous lymph node. Waiting until this coming Friday to see the surgeon. I just keep praying for him and all who suffer with this nasty disease.

Wow Lyn I am happy to hear this! We have faith too and a very strong social network which helps. Well his Urologist ordered Percocet and Tylenol # 3 and His Oncologist ordered Ibuprofen. His goal to to treat with Morphine when pain is too much.
My husband did have radiation 6 years ago. Doesn’t seem like that is a part of the plan at this time.

We that have love in our life’s are fortunate..No one wants APC , or heart disease, or diabetes, but this is our plight. Strength , knowledge , and compassion are here for you both..
Thanks Lulu 700. It’s one of the blessings of having a diagnosis of cancer. My husband’s desire was to retire in Hawaii and our daughter turned 30 years last October with a great plan to celebrate in South Africa. Instead she changed plans because of her dad. Both the Urologist and Oncologist recommended not taking that long trip. We did! It was the best thing we could have done. He was in excruciating pain, a Foley catheter but we made it. He came back a new man.
That pic was taken on the balcony on his birthday. Didn’t do much on that day because of the pain, fatigue from travelling. He enjoyed being with his family in Hawaii.
Lesson learnt? Trust your instincts. Persevere! It’s not over because a licensed professional says it is!
Hawaii is magical healing place.I floated in the calm Hanalei bay 2 yrs ago after getting an all clear sign.I almost sleep and when I opened my eyes it looked like I was in heaven on earth , which I was . Those 10 minutes alone were so beautiful it was well worth all of the pain and suffering just to be alive for those ten minutes.. We. Must enjoy the moment .more possible without pain.Im not much one for pain.. Prayers go to you both.. Here’s love for you. My wife and I dated 2yrs prior to dx.. madly in love , sexual and unconditional love. Wed upon dx ,while sporting neauphostmy tubes & foley ,under my Armani suit.. no one really knew my severity at the time except her.. 30;lbs lighter, scared to death , fresh out of the hospital what a honey moon it’s been . Still deeply in love . She’s been thru hell with me..and saved me .. a reason to be alive and keep kickin is what’s necessary to survive and live “With” APC . Love is the best reason . So , neither give in to dome or give up to hopelessness. wish you safety in these crazy weather patterns. Thank you ..

I was afraid, sad and anxious and even angry when I found out my husband was stage 4. I now realize those emotions are thieves of precious time. I am a lot more optimistic, and embracing each moment of pain and pleasure.

Mahalo, that would be lovely to share that aloha spirit. I was hoping to move there as early as the end of February, but things didn’t work out quite the way I planned. Yet another blessing of this disease, learning to trust each moment and realizing everything is about timing.
