Help! I have an appointment to see a therapist for the 1st time soon but am reaching out to anyone who sees this right now! I am so stuck and freaking out. I am infuriated that I can't get off the couch and make the food I promised to make for my husband for his lunch tomorrow. I have to do it! I've failed him so many times. I can't do it again. But I'm stuck here shaking at the thought of preparing the meal. I usually cope with videos or food binges but it's not working. It's bad. HELP! How do I get out of this?!

PLEASE! Someone be there 😭😭😭
Hey....what is the most manageable step you can take right now?
And what are you stuck in, is it anxiety, depression, panic?
I dont know exactly. I need to finish sonething in the next few hours but when I attempt to get up my mind freaks out and I just stay here shaking.
Ok, that stinks, but I’ve been there myself so I think I understand. I think getting grounded might help. You can do this by sitting up and just concentrating on the feeling of your feet touching the floor and breathing. Don’t worry about having to do something, judging yourself, just feel the floor beneath your feet and take a few breaths
I’m here to talk you through it as best I can ok?
I have learned although not always the best at doing it myself that trying to break what you want to do down to the smallest steps is best. So don’t think about making rye sandwich, first see if you can just stand up, even if it’s to sit back down again, could you stand up and then sit down?
Great that good to hear!
I have no idea who you are but THANK YOU for existing. I was losing my mind and going somewhere dark because I thought no one would hear me.
Sorry my phone went off needed charging!
I am so glad I was able to help. I have been overwhelmed and just needed someone to talk to quite a few times myself.
For whatever reason your very existence has given me a calmness. I think I can do this. Your response was EVERYTHING to me today. I can't thank you enough.
I’m so sorry 😐 that U R going thru this. I know what it feels like to be stuck as though I can’t get off the couch some times
But I’m so proud of U that U R going to see a therapist. Some meds might help U. There
R things U can do like deep breathing,
listen to Music U enjoy. I have a visualization exercise that I use to relax me.
I love all kinds of Latin music and I love
Andrea Bocelli. So on YouTube I found
Bocelli singing Besa Mucho to a receptive
audience in Las Vegas. I close my eyes
Do my breathing exercises and take in the
Beautiful music. It’s such a relaxing
feeling. Remember U have people in
this group who support U. Good luck 🍀
With your doctor’s visit tomorrow
I’m in your corner. Virtual fist 🤛 bump
Hi LostMamaOf2 . When I get locked up as you are describing, I have learned to look at what I am saying to myself. What I read in your post was that you “should” but you “can’t.” When you change your thought to “I choose” and “I can” what happens? What about making lunch is important to you? Why would you choose to make lunch over, say, laying on the couch resting? “Shoulds” imply obligation, not choice, and we with ADHD are very reluctant and resistant to obligations in general.
Courage, you can do this! Be proud that you are reaching out to others, and choose not to should all over yourself 😉
Do you take any medication? That's important for me every morning as I struggle with being productive.
What is the underlying fear behind doing what you have to do? Or what belief is ingrained in your head that makes you think that you shouldn't be doing this? Or what stories are whirling in your head?
Rule #1: any negative reaction or behaviors are fear based.
Rule#2: choose compassion as feeling a caring and loving way to approach everything will always win.
Use anything to help put your mind at ease like playing upbeat music.
Have the some of it ready the night before so that you don't distract yourself. And don't discount how you feel by being frustrated.
Outsmart yourself with reverse psychology.
Please let us know how it goes.
Do you have any candles or textured items? I have panic attacks and use my senses to help me calm down as deep breathing doesn’t work for me. I like to smell candles and touch things with fun textures. I have small easy coloring pages and markers to give me something else to think about.
Taking a hot shower also can help me calm down and re focus
