Hi,I'm Derek, from New Zealand. I was recently diagnosed with ADHD and I'm seeking support from others ADHDers via online groups or individuals. My Psychiatrist forwarded this site to me, so I hope it helps. I'm kind of desperate.

Hi Derek, welcome and thank you for sharing so openly. Getting a new diagnosis can feel overwhelming, especially when you're trying to figure out what kind of support actually helps. You're definitely not alone in this, and I’m really glad you found your way here. Since you're exploring options, I wanted to mention something that’s made a big difference for me: occupational therapy (OT). I used to feel like I was constantly falling behind in life—struggling to stay organized, manage sensory overload, and just function day-to-day. OT changed that.
Occupational therapists who specialize in ADHD don’t try to “fix” you—they help you find tools and routines that actually work for your brain. That might mean using strategies for time management, setting up daily routines that feel doable, or finding ways to cope with stress and sensory triggers. For me, OT was the missing piece that helped everything else (even meds!) fall into place. You don’t have to figure it out alone. OT gave me back a sense of control, and I think it could be a lifeline for you too. Happy to chat more if you’re curious!
Hello Derek, my name is Misty and I was diagnosed at 50 and I am not 54. I know something was wrong when I was younger but couldn't pin point it. Adhd is definitely is hard to get the right diagnosed and get the correct treatment here inn the US. You said you we're desperate but what desperate for?
Hi You are in the right place. Whats going on? Why are you desperate?
Welcome! Ive been here a couple years and I’ve found it quite helpful. Don’t be afraid to report, as this site has bad people like all others, but admin work hard on keeping them out. Most of us are helpful and quite welcoming. Zen hugs 🫂
Hello Derek, Spike Bowler,
I call it the Ah Hah moment when you realize that others have the same differences such as last putting down an object and going on an intensive hunt to find it. I just replaced my phone. That was a first. But leaving a credit card on the checkout counter, my wallet at an ATM and the list goes on. I am 69 and believe that I needed to accept my limitations and learn alternative ways to compensate for multiple systems of behaviors to prevent obvious ADHD symptoms.
I am a professional Licensed Clinical Therapist in the State of New York. I do provide therapy to other international english speaking
Hello Spikebowler, Derek,
I am from the northeastern part of New York. The one universal and global similarity is ADHD. Thanks and welcome coming on. I have traditionally used this platform as a professional Clinical Therapist and directed so many of my clients to participate with CHADD. I am third generation ADHD and my two adult sons make it a fourth generation. The thing is that I didn't consider myself as having ADHD. I definitely knew that I was different. I went to graduate school to get a Master's in Social Work, Clinical focus, and learned that I have lived with ADHD since I was born. I particularly like the Ahhh Hahh moments when I found out certain behaviors I did were a cause and effect from one of the symptoms.
In my clinical practice, I especially enjoy working with those who are referred to me with ADHD. Rather than lable the condition, I have so much of a personal experience in my development and have a similar understanding. I also learned that there are many individualized characteristics depending on how the individual adapted with the condition and their life experiences as a result of the interpersonal and relational experiences.
I would like to know more about your experience and can send you voluumes of the past 69 years I have lived with ADHD.
