Anyone with ADHD get really nervous & really unsure about applying for a new job? I currently take care of people's pets but I need more work and I need a new challenge. I'm debating whether or not to apply to be a swimming instructor at a gym for kids. I like swimming, kids and the location is not far. I'm so hesitant to apply and I'm not on any ADHD medication because the previous medication I was on was making me feel dizzy, & feel pretty strange and sometimes sick. I'm not on that one anymore. I have been on many different types of medications and they just didn't work. They worked for awhile to help me stay focused but months later I would feel either really agitated, or dizzy, sick etc. I have taken care of toddlers before but not in a group setting of kids. Just one. In the past I have had problems taking care of a group of toddlers because of my ADHD. Lose track, easily distracted and the typical ADHD symptoms. I'm taking an antidepressant to help me and my anxiety which is prozac. I'm just starting to take supplements to help with my ADHD. I'm willing to try anything else to help me. I'm not sure if I should mention to my employer (if they decide to hire me) to let them know that I have ADHD. In the past I have meet people who have NO clue what it is. Or I get a response of" ....you don't have that....." That was a comment was from a past employer at a school that I use to work for over 15 years ago. Should I wait until I find a medication that helps with my ADHD? Before deciding on applying for the swimming instructor job?

I can relate so much to you. I was treated for ocd and depression for years. Prozac worked the best. But I am not on any of that anymore. They r trying adhd med. First they put me on gabapentin for my anxiety. But I feel real dizzy.

Maybe you should wait until after finding the right ADHD medication since it will probably increase your attention span, focus and ability to handle sudden changes. I don't know if you should mention your ADHD to the employer though. Just thinking out loud here...

What adhd medication made you feel dizzy and sick? How many milligrams?

I can't remember at the top of my head.

This job you want as a swim instructor, you have experience doing it before? And as far as telling my employer or coworkers I don’t. I have found that people I’ve met who don’t have adhd don’t understand adhd. For me it’s never made my life better telling them.
