I am raising my beautiful, busy, active grandchild. She has been in my care since birth,
she is now 6-1/2 years old. Since the age of 2 I started noticing behavior's similar to her Mother and Uncle (My children) and wondered does she too have ADHD.
Now, at age 6, I believe she has all the classic signs of ADHD. But trying to find a doctor to diagnose her is difficult. Without getting into all the details of her young life, she has experienced the loss of her Mother, 4 years of court litigation by her Father who has no parental rights. She is very bright but all over the place. Her teachers assessment pretty much deemed her a behavorial problem, her Father blames me and her doctor flat out dismissed me. It was easy to get a diagnosis for my son and daughter years ago, but it I am hitting a brick wall now.

do you have legal/medical custody? If not, that’s probably the reason you have so many issues. If you do, you could go to get a second opinion for doctors. From my experience, younger doctors are more open to girls being diagnosed because they were recently trained with the newer research. Older o es are stuck in old beliefs and research.
Thank you for your reply. Yes, I am her legal guardian since her Mother's passing. She is in therapy still and has been referred to another psychiatrist for evaluation.
