I’m posting this early, as some of us might have already caught Olympics fever this weekend, with many exciting disciplines already well into the games!

And as some of you have become aware, I’m also in Olympics fever! I’ve been rowing and stretching whilst watching various Olympic athletes to inspire me to workout that little bit longer.

So, I thought, how can I make this work also for outdoor workouts, like walking?

So for our August Challenge, let’s see if we can be inspired to improve our regular walking by some of the Olympic disciplines listed below! And if you can tick all of them off in August, we’ll have some virtual gold medals ready to be awarded!

I’ve also put together an Olympic inspired song playlist that we can take outside with us (Spotify open.spotify.com/playlist/2... ).

Let’s see, how many can we tick off?

1. **Canoe Slalom**: Have you been able to choose from different terrains and pathways, road and trail, rocky or smooth, to challenge your agility and adaptability, much like those kayaks and canoes navigating their Olympic slalom course?

2. **Climbing**: Have you included hills and steps into your walking route to build strength and endurance, similar to how climbers tackle various elevations?

3. **Surfing**: Have you embraced the unpredictability of weather and walking conditions, getting out there no matter what nature throws at us?

4. **Running**: Have you tried adding intervals of fast(er) walking or light jogging to improve cardiovascular fitness and endurance?

5. **Weightlifting**: Are you integrating strength training, like bodyweight squats or dumbbell workouts, to improve your walking by enhancing overall muscle strength?

6. **Marathon**: Have you or are you still building your walking distance progressively, improving your endurance and stamina?

7. **Race Walking**: Do you use moments on your walks to pay attention to your form and technique?

8. **Gymnastics**: Have you included balance and coordination sections into your walks, such as walking on curbs or uneven surfaces, to improve balance and stability?

9. **Triathlon**: Have you mixed your walking with other activities like cycling, swimming, rowing or light jogging to benefit from cross-training?

10. **Archery**: Have you set yourself a next goal to aim for, not too far and not too near, to have those champion-moments of success that keep you going to that next goal?

So for our August Challenge, let’s see if we can tick off three or more for these! And if you can tick all of them off in August, we’ll have some virtual gold medals ready to be awarded!

Happy walking!

🍏 Go for Gold 🏅 CBDB You deserve a gold medal for this incredibly motivating & creative post! Wow 🤩

This is definitely inspiring me to keep walking in spite of my vertigo & other temporary disabilities… However I am SO looking forward to all the fun and excitement that will follow as many take up the challenges & post their attempts throughout August! 🎈❤️

Awwhhh!

And go you! You’re gonna beat this vertigo thing, I’m rooting for you!

My balance was all gone at some disruptive point in my life, and it has been a long slog to slowly get it back again. It is a slow process, but one that saw me experiencing some funny moments on that journey, like recently me and hubby proudly balancing on one leg opposite each other, seeing who could hold for longer!

I’m imagine you will have some similar proud moments full of achievement within your own recovery journey! And you will smash any targets you set yourself!

lots of hugs and recovery wishes!

✅ 1. **Canoe Slalom**: Luckily I have trails, roads and hills in my neighbourhood. Also being able to add canal paths, paths beside streams, farmyard tracks or roads and former railway tours. Doing my Walking - Running intervals on a trail run yesterday, I think I’ve ticked this off! ✅

✅ 2. **Climbing**: Tomorrow, I’ll be choosing a selection of hills to choose from for my regular run-walk-run, and these have been very handy for hill sprints! But it will simple be a solid active-walking-and-slow-and-steady-joggling outing tomorrow, nevertheless still ticking of the second challenge.

Of course, if I don’t do that tomorrow, I’ll have to change the ✅ into and 🔲! Fingers crossed 🤞 all goes well!

I’m missing the Olympics!!! I so enjoyed watching everyone excelling in Paris!

But I’ve managed to tick of challenge 9, I think:

✅ 9. **Triathlon**: I’ve mixed my recovery walking sessions with indoor rowing activities, benefiting me with cross-training?

I’m almost back to normal strength with rowing (after 2-week illness), and I should be soon to full strength with my running and walking as well!

Yey!
