Not sure yoga is for me but I did it!

Day one of yoga with Adrienne Flow. I skipped the kneeling part remembering last time when I damaged my knees because I can't and never could kneel. The rest was fine, I will keep going for a bit but even though I know how good it is I'm not sure it's for me.

I'll be interested to hear how others got on.

Well done for getting it done, I'm trying to pluck up the enthusiasm to go and do it. Too cold at the moment I'll wait until the heating comes on in an hour, hugging the log burner at the moment and watching the pouring rain... Again 🌧️🌧️🌧️

It's foul out there, but I've done the walk and now the yoga, only the gym to go 🤣 my granddaughter is bringing vegan lemon chicken round for dinner after the gym

That sounds a brilliant, well done. I got back to my early morning Sun Salutations today. I only did 3 instead of the usual 6 so perhaps it's my fault that the sun has disappeared 😂

I'm afraid I've told the dog he'll have to make do with one walk today - afternoon walk is cancelled.I'm intrigued by vegan lemon chicken?

I think it's tofu, but at a stretch you would know if no one told you it wasn't real chicken, I rarely eat meat but do get through enormous amounts of cheese. Maybe I should check out the sun salutations, and I'm jealous of your log burner 😁

Now I'm really jealous 🤣🤣🤣, Alfie looks as if he's in bliss, and oh that log burner looks wonderful......I've got storage heaters which are ok but not like a real fire. I'm off to the gym in an hour and heading straight to the sauna

Ooohh nice! Yes, our house is also missing a log burner, so I’m very jealous.

Lemon chicken with rice was delicious, it's some sort of pea protein, the non chicken is similar in texture to chicken but a bit chewier, we had it with rice. She'd cooked it in the slow cooker at home and heated it in my slow cooker after gym. We were both hungry.

I know what you mean. I have done yoga in the past and I think if you do faster sports like running or triathlons it just feels really slow… but once you adjust your head it is brilliant.

I found that my balance was rubbish and really needed work and that is not something you can do at speed 😄

Perseverance is key, although meditation really was not for me, but perhaps someone can tell me why it is a good thing. Paying someone to tell me to breathe does not seem good value for money!

I have listened to meditation podcasts and quickly fall asleep. I can't kneel but like the yoga stretches so will try again tomorrow 😁

I cannot sit cross legged, so the start was ropey - it's like being stabbed in the knees, thighs and bum, so not altogether pleasant or relaxing. Then I did a bit of actual Adrienne. Then I did a few of my own stretches. Then I drifted away from it entirely and did ten minutes of my version of yoga. Then I went walking in torrential rain as it was too depressing to run and I have a Mount Everest pile of ironing to do.

Will continue with Day 2 tomorrow and see where that gets us ...

Well done!

Ooo, bit like me then 🤣🤣🤣 I can sit cross legged but can't kneel and sit back on my heels as one leg doesn't bend that far, seemed to spend a lot of time taking most my weight on my shoulders which now ache but gym and sauna will get rid of that.I love ironing and have none ....

Let's come back and see what happens on day 2 😁

I absolutely love Adriene's voice but there is something about the yoga she offers that I just can't handle physically - for me it is often my wrists.

I get on much better with Ekhart yoga although I'm most successful with a short personal practice I put together from classes there.

Perhaps you could just watch it through and then re-enact it, moving more quickly as you are not waiting for instruction?

There’s a dedicated post over on Strength and Flex if you want to join in there too…

I do my practice late at night, so always the last…gives me a chance to suss out potential problems…that and sometimes watching through earlier in the day…😉

Yes, take care of those knees. I know what that’s like, I think. Mine are requiring to have extra blanket padding, and squatting is difficult and I use a large block to help me with that. I do know my knees improve if I stick with it, so I’m hoping this will be the same this year.

How did you damage your knees, if I may ask? As I or others may need to be careful with their knees as well.

I was in a road accident when I was 12 and since then it's been hard to kneel, hurts, both knees, I remember a daily thing we did a few years ago where we stretched our hips by kneeling with knees wide apart, it was most uncomfortable but I thought stick with it as it's stretching hips and it'll get better, it didn't, I was hobbling for weeks in the end, since then I've tried yoga but as soon as I kneel that pain is there so I don't. I tried a cushion yesterday but still uncomfortable so I did not on knees stretching. The rest was fine so I'll give day 2 a go

👍🏽 yeah, listen to your knees and YWA might also not be for everyone. I know others have said it’s hard on wrists and knees.
