#Photowalk Challenge July/Aug : A Big Jump!

Today was supposed to be a gym day but I’ve got a cold. I didn’t think doing squats holding a bar on my shoulder while my nose runs like a tap was a good plan! I wasn’t planning on doing anything but after some coffee and paracetamol, I decided a change of scenery would help. Setting out with a big bunch of tissues, I headed for the common hoping to catch a big plane going over.

It’s quite a steep start and I was a little sneezy. As I paused to blow my nose, I spotted some moment in the field next to me. A fox! I watched him for a little while and was lucky that when he decided to move on, he didn’t spot me so passed really close by. I was so pleased I’d made it out and and happened to stop at that moment to notice him,

As I carried on along the lane, I noticed the Shetland ponies rolling in the field. Super ungainly and very amusing. Up to the main road and a walk alongside a traffic jam to reach the common. The weather was glorious. By this point, my head was feeling much clearer. I spotted some cinnabar moths on ragwort. Last year we had hundreds of caterpillars on the ragwort weeds in our garden so I actually recognised these without liking them up. A plane went over and that was going to be my “big” photo.

Since I was feeling good, I took the longer route home. Across the common, down the hill. I forgot there’s a road closure that meant a fair bit more traffic. I paused next to a field and let a few pass. Again, I noticed something but this time it was a pair of deer. One scarpered but the other watched me for a little while before elegantly prancing off to join his friend. Somehow or other, I caught one mid prance (see photo!). So that’s my “big” photo for the day. It felt like the sort of walk where it was hard to choose just one special picture but this big jump wins.

Happy walking everyone!

Thanks so much! Often when I’m all bunged up, having a walk (if I can bear it!) really helps and this one has proper healing properties!

Thank you! Total luck! Sometimes you just have one of those walks where everything feels lovely and it was most certainly one of those today! ❤️

How’s your post op recovery going? Have been thinking of you!

Aww thank you! It’s going well. I’m hoping for one of those lovely walks fairly soon!

I’ve been at the hospital today for removal of a giant pin from my second toe,, and an X-ray of my foot. The bunion joint is now held together by six screws and a cross piece. According to the consultant the bones are all knitting nicely. He said I can go back to normal shoes tomorrow. However, I’ve just tried my baggy old slippers and discovered that they don’t fit! My foot is straighter than it was, and longer. It’s really tough, but it seems I may have to do some shoe shopping before I can take the dog for a walk again..

What a brilliant photo! I forget about walks - good reminder that they are very valuable for rest days. I've got gig rowing tomorrow if its not cancelled - horrendous weather all day here and not looking good for tomorrow but things can change.... of course the first day of school holidays is rubbish after weeks of sunshine!
