Today was supposed to be a gym day but I’ve got a cold. I didn’t think doing squats holding a bar on my shoulder while my nose runs like a tap was a good plan! I wasn’t planning on doing anything but after some coffee and paracetamol, I decided a change of scenery would help. Setting out with a big bunch of tissues, I headed for the common hoping to catch a big plane going over.
It’s quite a steep start and I was a little sneezy. As I paused to blow my nose, I spotted some moment in the field next to me. A fox! I watched him for a little while and was lucky that when he decided to move on, he didn’t spot me so passed really close by. I was so pleased I’d made it out and and happened to stop at that moment to notice him,
As I carried on along the lane, I noticed the Shetland ponies rolling in the field. Super ungainly and very amusing. Up to the main road and a walk alongside a traffic jam to reach the common. The weather was glorious. By this point, my head was feeling much clearer. I spotted some cinnabar moths on ragwort. Last year we had hundreds of caterpillars on the ragwort weeds in our garden so I actually recognised these without liking them up. A plane went over and that was going to be my “big” photo.
Since I was feeling good, I took the longer route home. Across the common, down the hill. I forgot there’s a road closure that meant a fair bit more traffic. I paused next to a field and let a few pass. Again, I noticed something but this time it was a pair of deer. One scarpered but the other watched me for a little while before elegantly prancing off to join his friend. Somehow or other, I caught one mid prance (see photo!). So that’s my “big” photo for the day. It felt like the sort of walk where it was hard to choose just one special picture but this big jump wins.
Happy walking everyone!
