Photowalk challenge Feb/March: Yes, it’s a bird, and yes, it’s a plane!

I had a lot of fun with today’s walk. I’d originally planned to walk for 12 minutes but I was a bit dozey and set my timer for the full time instead of half so I forgot to turn around! As it was, I was having a lovely time and ended up staying out for a nearly forty minutes. I’m counting that as a big win!

The weather has been a challenge. Windy, drizzly and grey. Not the most enticing! Still, I’ve felt rubbish with cold for a couple of days and not really been out for more than a few minutes. Felt a bit stir crazy at home. I decided to wait for a gap in the drizzle and just go for it. I picked an easy route because I’m quite tired and sniffly.

Up the footpath from my road. Look up? Catkins. Must tell CBDB ! It’s a quite a steep climb so I pause to catch my breath. Look up? A buzzard struggling in the wind. The path quickly levels off and I turn on to the lane. It must be peak dog walking time because there are five of them in the distance. A variety of dogs from mini to maxi!

As I walk along the lane, I hear what I think is a car and pause. Looking up again, it’s a plane coming in to land at the airport. I spend some time thinking about where in the world I’d like to be right now. Beach with a cocktail is the winner!

My timer goes off and I realise my mistake. It’s great fl be out so I carry on along the lane to a little park. There’s a lovely, friendly cat who often hangs out here but no sign of him today. Time to turn around.

On my way back, I get a view into some other fields. Shetland ponies wearing coats. A chicken coop that I’m sure is new. A lost hat on a fence post.

I’d forgotten how much I enjoy a blustery walk when I’ve been feeling cooped up. Really glad I made it out!

what a lovely post. Reminded me of Winnie the Pooh. He has such lovely walks. Did you feel like Pooh bear or piglet today??

Thank you! It really was nice to be out. Aiming for twelve minutes wasn’t too intimidating and once I’d started, it was lovely.

I have to confess that I’ve never read Winnie the Pooh! From my limited knowledge, I was definitely an Eeyore first thing but have perked up since. I might need some help on the characters of Winnie and Piglet before committing to one or the other!

What a nice blustery walk! (I’d rather be a bird in blustery winds than in a plane, though. I experienced heavy turbulences on planes twice in my lifetime, once in a large plane which dropped in an air pocket 😱😱😱🫣 whilst we were having food which all flew in the air, and another time in a 20-seater, when the plane tilted in an uncontrolled manner after 3 teenage boys jumped from one side of the plane to the other 😱😱😱🫣)

Are you using pegs, by any chance? You describe your walk so vividly! 👏👏👏👏

I’m with you on that-turbulent flights aren’t much fun! Yours sound super scary.

I think I find it much easier to remember details of walks because I’m thinking less about other things than when I’m running. I don’t think I’ve ever considered my pace, breathing, form, distance left to cover etc when I’m on a walk! Plus, this part of the route has been walked or run literally hundreds of times before so it’s easier to remember things that are different. It’s really nice doing the same route regularly through the seasons and seeing the changes.

Oh, yikes! My stomach pitched while reading this! Things like that are why I wouldn’t want to fly anymore!

Love everything about your walk...

Thanks! Sometimes it’s those walks or runs that we have to push ourselves out the door to get done that turn out to be the best ones!

I repeated most of it again this evening, just turning back slightly earlier. Tonight, the weather was gorgeous. The sun was setting. Deer in the distant fields and a kestrel just sitting happily in a tree. It’s amazing how essentially the same walk can be so different!

Definitely lucky! Until lockdown, I had no idea most of the routes I regularly walk existed!
