#Photo walk...June/July Critters... Sea Anemones...Snails ... Seaweed and Shells.

Well... the dearth of Critters on my last walk was more than made up for yesterday!

Another absolutely glorious day, and a short but sweet run was undertaken before the heat set in.

Breakfast eaten... an al fresco picnic packed for the back pack... ice pack included... Check list for Mr OF... walking poles... painkiller taken as per consultant's instructions.. and off to one of our favourite walks and our secret beach!

A slow, leisurely walk along the coastal path...marveling at the view and the abundance of flower and foliage. The trail deserted and hard-baked underfoot, despite the torrential rain at the weekend. Easier to walk on the browning, but still cushion-springy tufts of grass...

After half an hour or so we turned and headed for our beach. We call it ours, since it was discovered many, many years ago... there is a small main beach, where folk trundle down the boat ramp, to sit and swim...but this one is hidden from view and slightly tricky to get down to.

Years ago, we got down with little trouble...younger, fitter, bendier and very dare-devil. In those days we were climbing regularly in the Llanberis Pass... walking the mountains of Snowdonia and even when our children were small, we used to go down to this beach, and they loved it too! Young limbs !

Now... age has had an impact.. the natural wear and tear, means more care needs taking. Mr OF has a crocked knee, ( years of rock-climbing) and knees jammed in tight places), and so, the descent is slower. Eventually after much laughter and general tomfoolery... we are ensconced in the place we have sat in for over 50 years... and only once seen one other person on that beach!

The sun is strong and I am ready to go into the sea, almost straight away...skinny dipping is always fun... and the water, clear as crystal, with, wonderfully, the kelp growing thickly again , was like a warm caress on the skin.. Poddling around and out again grabbing a big t shirt and hat.. I pootled all around the rock pools, collecting even more shells.. Mr OF finding the smallest ones he could for small runner in training..

Sitting on the very edge of some rocks, jutting out to the sea.. I remembered days when I sat here... I was on the IC waiting for MRI results on a knee injury...as an injury couch it was splendid!

Lots of photograph opportunities here.. sea anemones... deep scarlet- fronded jewels in the hidden pool treasure chests... limpet shelled and snail inhabited.... a world in a world...I took so many shots, until Mr OF mentioned lunch..

Few things rival the al fresco meal. Chilled and nutritious... we ate hungrily and heartily... I think if I lived here, I would put weight on faster … the air gives you a real appetite! Lunch eaten... we dozed a little... eyes half-closed under our wide brimmed hats... awake , yet not... aware but not attentive... until up again and another wander... I wonder how many steps I got in... Another quick dip a little later, then time to pack up and attempt the ascent.

It went well.. with a few stops for J to rest a tad, but we made the top and another leisurely stroll back to the car.

Days and walks like this, are ones for the memory jar... to be taken down from the shelf of the mind , on a cold winter's day. To be remembered and talked about; photographs to be studied and the warmth of the sunshine and the joy in our hearts, enough to thaw out, any winter blues.

Oldfloss x

PS

I resisted popping in any skinny dipping shots ! :) x

Good post from you Oldfloss and more beautiful photos on that lovely walk you had today, I didn't realise that Mr Oldfloss used to be a rock climber, I am sorry about his knees due to the climbing, I agree that looking at photos taken in the summer and looking at them in the winter takes away the winter blues.

He did... we both did ... but J did more than I and was an instructor too, when he was Officer Commanding, of the cadets when he was at RAF Stafford...and a D of E Gold assessor... He has acted a s volunteer to for Snowdonia Mountain Rescue... It makes it all the harder for him, now he is not as mobile as he would wish to be, x

But we cycle and we moderate the walks we do together and we have fun!

What a delightful post and beautiful photos OF, thank you for sharing your secret beach with us. What special memories of times past but not forgotten. How brave to go skinny dipping (I have never done that!) - was the water cold?!

Not really...the slabs of stone under the water seem to reflect the warmth...I am totally at ease here.. so secluded.. I'd hate to offend anyone.. I just go in gently and slowly..no jumping in...It's a special place. .and on days as warm as yesterday...simply beautiful x

I’ve never skinny dipped, I’m very self conscious of my body 🫣 especially these past few years, but it’s something I’m working on!

Just good fun :)

The last few times getting down was tricky... and we tried different routes, but J struggled , so we used our old route. It is more or less the same except that the bottom section, over the years has been eroded... only a meter or so, but it makes that last section interesting... !

The coastal path is so lovely.. especially heading down the Llyn...we are going to do some more walking the other way, to see if , what was a very precarious section of the path has been re routed. J's balance is not good and although I take the lead... I am not in a position to be overly helpful in those situations! :)

We are grasping every special moment and on our walks, taken at a slower pace now, there is so much time to photograph things, study them closely and simply soak every sensation up!

Stunning photos there Floss! How lovely to visit such a secluded beach too over many years. It is a real treasure by the sounds of it. There were coves like that in Cornwall that I remember as a child. Steep paths down to a particular cove that had large amounts of slippery bladdewrack and the water looked ominous, darkened by giant kelp. It was an amazing experience, followed by a stop at a local bakers for warm freshly baked bread and Cornish pasties, yum!

Oh yes...that sounds just fabulous. Memories of childhood with its heady pleasures, secret delights, monsters and magicians...Your coves sound wonderful.. Scary yet special. ...I think things like this fuel us as we get older

Our walking or our running . .

And..one of the best thing about Memories .. is making new ones..

What a lovely post describing a wonderful day.. I somehow missed seeing it yesterday! Your secret beach sounds perfect, and I’m glad to hear you found plenty of critters.. I’m worried by what seems to me to be a shortage of critters these days, compared to times past..

A day for the memory bank, indeed..😊

I missed your reply too.. just travelled back today... eight days until we head back again.

There is a shortage... I was watching a feature on it on the TV... and so many reasons why! I am always greatly relieved when I see my first snail friend after the winter !

It is a beautiful tranquil place... a real spirit lifter and heart mender when things get tough... Yes... my memory jar gets very full indeed... thanks you. Hope your are resting and healing well x
