We (hubby and son) enjoyed a lovely Garden walk today in Shropshire, spending 2 hours frolicking between edible forest gardens, hellebores paths, waterfalls, daffodils and surprising garden sculptures from carved owls, woodpeckers and even a life-size stag!
The best thing about the walk is that my back didn’t ache , even by the end of the second hour. And that is rare!
So I wondered why, and so just to keep track of what might have ensured this pain free perambulations, here are the things that might have positively contributed:
1) Rather than my rigid walking boots, or my work ankle boots, I wore my zero-drop wide-toed road running shoes.
2) since ca 5 days or so, I’ve done a daily very short but intensive arm strengthening dumbbell workout, and it does work out the upper body, as well. So it might have benefitted specifically the upper back. See healthunlocked.com/strength...
3) I’ve been doing my ankle mobility drills and exercises, and having more flexibility in the lower chains of the body might help with stacking the body more when walking. The latest exercises are here healthunlocked.com/strength... And although the ankle is almost at the other end of the body, so far away from where my ache in my back appears, I do know that each joint has a function and can affect each other. See healthunlocked.com/strength...
4) Getting in my 3 runs per week helps as well with my backache . I know when I run regularly, my walking improves!
So there I have it! A lovely backache-free 2-hour walk, just in time for my long-walks season to really start!
Wishing everyone pain free walks in our beautiful isles!
