A buzz(ard) about this walk!

I’m sort of enjoying walking while I’m not able to run. It’s a bit bittersweet-I keep catching myself thinking that it would be perfect running conditions and I wish I was doing that. I know it’s right to follow the physio’s advice but I’m still missing the runs. Plus, I’m not totally confident about what my knees are happy doing right now so each walk has a little worry about getting to the end without too much pain.

The good news is I’ve increased the time I’m out for (I’m deliberately ignoring distance) back up to an hour with photo breaks so that gives me decent options. Avoiding steep downhills is trickier though.

Yesterday evening I was three quarters of the way home when I was just starting to be aware of my knee. Not pain but the sort of feeling that tells you you’ve nearly had enough. I spotted a buzzard land in a tree and I hurried to take a photo. I got very excited thinking I’d caught it silhouetted against the sky until I realised it was just a pigeon that I’d been taking pictures of 🙈. As I went to put my phone away, the buzzard took off from a hiding place in amongst the branches and started circling overhead. This snap was the lucky result! I guess slowing down has unexpected benefits sometimes!!

It's funny I am having similar thoughts on my walks and my ride thinking it would be nice to run 😐We will get there !

And yes, you can safely say you caught the buzzard there and not a pigeon 🤣

It reminds me of my gliding days when I would be circling in a thermal and a buzzard or two would come along and Join us from below , and in minutes they would out soar us and be way above 🙂

Seeing birds of prey while gliding must have been an amazing sight! I love spotting them when I’m out and about but to see them from the air is something else.

Not to long until wishing walks were runs will become wishing runs were walks I’m sure!!! 😂😂

Yes, I think you’re right. Slowing down is not a bad thing. You encounter different things: nature moves in different speeds and in order for us to experience it’s full glory, we must too.

I’m still dreaming of the time where I don’t have to fear encountering a backache again on walks, so encountering pilgrims or buzzards instead would also be always such a plus!

Walking is something special, important in our lives and enough to keep us fit and healthy, until you can run of course, then it feels slow, well done you for embracing your walks and taking time to snap pictures to share, time will pass and you will be healed running free once again.

I often see buzzards when I’m on my allotment. I’m usually alerted by the sound of seagulls or crows as they mob the poor birds…☹️
