Foxgloves in the forest, my first post. 😊

β€’16 Replies

Hello everyone,

This is my first post as I thought these Active sites were for running and think that PHE initiative to encourage people to have a 10 minute walk every day is commendable. So I'm pleased to join and join in.

I am recovering from a groin injury that was caused when I was knocked off my bike at speed as my shoulder and groin tendons were pulled. I then moved house and strained myself lifting too many heavy things so I have been going for short walks to build myself back up again slowly and surely now its getting better.

This morning there was a very light drizzle and the forest is wonderful first thing and a little rain sounds nice, I think that the Foxglove must be my favourite wild flower so was really pleased to see these flowering as they're very regal. This is on a very steep slope and I like that as it really makes your ticker pump going up a steep ingredient.

I love being amongst nature as it's all encompassing so I often sit on a fallen. tree and just enjoy the surroundings.

I also really like taking photo's of my walks and have posted on HW but thats a very quiet community, here's an encounter with a wild boar... πŸ—

Enjoy your walks folks as I love mine,

Jerry. 😊

Glad you enjoyed your walk with lovely foxgloves. Where is the picture of the boar taken, is it in the UK. ? Hope your should and groin get better shortly and you get back on your bike, agree walking good for injuries. I’m not that confident on slippery slopes in case I fall with osteoporosis. Enjoy your weekend πŸ˜ƒ

Thank you Doris8 I live in the Forest of Dean which’s very pretty well there’s lots of trees! I’ve osteopenia so have to be careful but eat lots of food to strengthen my bones so I don’t blame you as no one wants to take a tumble and especially with osteoporosis,

This is the path into the forest and this is literally 3 minutes from home if we’re timing short walks, so how good is that.

You take care with your osteoporosis and enjoy your day now 😊

I was reading your profile and we have similar things don’t take gluten dairy and I can’t take egg. Not as adventurous as you baking bread but I manage to find things to eat and improvise. I have microscopic colitis as well it’s got to do with the diverticulitis. Take care and enjoy your weekend 😊

Welcome to the forum and good post Hidden this is the forum for those who use the NHS Active10 app.

You can download the Active10 app here nhs.uk/better-health/get-ac...

Thank you drun I noticed an app was being used so I'll down load it, I don’t show maps with locations. But will happily share stats.

Very wise Hidden we never encourage people to show maps with their location. Let us know how you get on with the app.πŸ‘

Oh wow! Beautiful! And I had a look at your encounter with a boar! πŸ˜³πŸ˜„ I used to come across quite a few of them in Germany as a Teenager cycling through a similar forest to get to school daily. Loved that!

β€’ in reply toCBDB

Hey thanks for that CBDB I did a series on the boars on another community but the boars we’re getting too much unwanted attention at night so I deleted them to protect the boars who have now moved deeper into the forest.

That must have been amazing growing up and cycling to school, through the Black Forest what a location to grow up in. I’ve holidayed in the Black Forest. 😊

Yes, I can imagine. It wasn’t actually the Black Forest, although I have cycled and kayaked there as well in my younger days. No, it was a smaller forest between two mid-sized cities. Not more than 10k in lengths, but it had a few families of boars. πŸ˜ŠπŸ—πŸŒ³πŸŒ²

Simply beautiful! Huge well done to you! I am about to head onto this forum too for support and to read others' adventures!

You have had a rough time and having to find alternative exercise can be hard. I am having to pull back a tad on my running, so although I walk a lot anyway, it is always good to share our exploits.

The photograph is beautiful.... my husband and I stayed in The Speech House, when we were first married...that was nearly 50 years ago... it was very posh then! The Forest of Dean is beautiful Lucky you!

Thank you so much for this Oldfloss

I've had my share of accidents that have rendered me needing to build myself up again so have been here before. I've a damaged knee cartilage so don't go running but have learnt to live with it.

I love walking and being amongst nature so look forward to seeing your walks and photo's.

My first experiences of the Active10 App is that its encourages me to walk at a slightly brisker pace and will be posting about using the App when going shopping.

Here's a photo of a family of boars blocking the footpath on my way home from the shops, I stopped and soon realised there were baby boars humbugs all around me and the mums were just saying stop right there!

I love the forest so thank you again for your kind comments and I look forward to your posts so good luck with the Active10 app as I really like it and recommend it.

Wow.. glad we did not meet any of those ..!You are doing well..!

I am on the running forums mainly., as an Admin and a runner :) and started running in 2015...a few injuries on the way! Did my first HM at 65.

Still running but have always walked ,cycled and climbed ...a blip last Autumn has meant pulling back a tad...so, walking with friends...even virtually is great!

I'm building up too, but do walk briskly.. my husband finds it tricky to keep up with my pace!
