Motivate me to walk.
Hi there and welcome to our little forum. When you say you don’t have the initiative to walk, is it motivation or energy levels that are keeping you from walking. Having a group of like minded people to talk to about your walks can help with the motivation, we can help with that. If it is energy levels, it is better to start of really slow and build up, we can help you find some structure with that as well. Have a look at the One You web site that can help with motivation.
Hi Patliputra. I was where you are 6 months ago! Then I joined this group. Totally unfit and having done no exercise for years, I started walking just 200 steps, about 3 times a week. I'm now up to 2600 steps, a minimum of 3 times a week! Slow and sure is the way to go, and no matter what level of fitness you're at, you'll get encouragement and support here! I look forward to hearing about your progress!
Pretty much what Hidden said. When people say they lack motivation, often what they lack is energy and the thing with energy is you have to use it to build it, it doesn't just come and find you on the couch. So start small, don't expect to much of yourself and if you keep it up you will improve.
I find that of I need a push to get out of the door, reading other people's posts can really help, so come back often.
Go and adopt an overweight rescue dog. But not so overweight that it cant walk in the countryside. You will both benefit and grow older together.
Lost another lbs last night at SW. Less than I wanted but a lbs is an lbs.
Talking of walking. I was exceeding 70,000 steps a week, mostly helped by my dogs but because of weather and other seasonal activities it has been less. If anybody knows what Drag Hunting with Beagles is all about (only use pilchard sent) I wonder how many steps I will achieve tomorrow?
Great post....
Forget about the walk.
Concentrate instead on your senses while you are outside.
What do you SEE?
What can you HEAR?
What are the SMELLS?
How are you FEELING?
Think about breathing the lovely fresh air.
And exposing your face to the natural daylight.
Who will you say hello to while you're out?... your greeting might just make their day brighter.
Will you see a poster for a nice event you'd like to attend? Maybe a carol service?
Will you stop for a nice cup of tea along the way?
Remember to dress warmly and in comfy shoes hat and gloves.
Gosh i can't wait to get out for my winter walk now!!😊
Best wishes to you.
I know the feeling I have to do it in the morning otherwise by the afternoon I'm too tired.
I'm lucky I have a nice long lounge so I do it indoors therefore avoiding the cold.
There are healthy walking schemes throughout the country if you want company. Also enquire at your local council they may have group walks local to where you live.
Start with one walk. Get out the door, and give it a go. Not far, not fast, just a gentle toodle. Then see how you feel after.
There is a proverb which can be modified to suit the situation, in a lighter vein
A walking person gathers no lethargy.
