Walked 2 miles tonight on this lovely and peaceful midsummer's evening. Pleased I did as I promised myself. Trying not to do my usual thing of overdoing things and trying to do everything at once. Resisted the temptation. Want to make this exercise a habit and not a phase.

I try and get 11K steps in daily! It is hard working all day but it is great!
It sounds like your starting off the right way. It's always better to start slow and steady. I can be like you and do too much then regret it. I am learning that I get further just by building up. There is a new walking group starting Monday on here, be sure to look out for the post as that will help with the motivation.
Posting your progress on the forum is a great way to solidify walking as a new habit. I personally love all of the posts with pictures, everyone here inspires me to get out more.

I have recently started walking for exercise too and want to build it up as part of a healthy lifestyle instead of rushing in trying to do everything at once then giving up because its too hard!
