My depression was set off by a life-changing event. I can't shake this underlying negativity every second of every day. Even when I am happy, I am not and the feeling doesn't last. When I have bad stages, it gets to the point where I feel like my insides weigh a ton, my head is full of cotton wool, and that I cant move my muscles. However I sometimes have massive highs where I do irresponsible things and feel completely euphoric. When these end I have massive lows for months. A friend asked if I had considered the possibility that I have a bipolar disorder or manic depression. Is this the case or is this simply chronic depression?

Chronic Depression for 5 years
Hi it does sound like bipolar but no one on here can give you medical advice or make a diagnosis. For that you need to see a doctor.
Make an appointment and get expert advice and treatment. Take care. x
Hi there I agree with coughalot2 see a doctor and don't let them fob you off! My sister in law has a mild form of bipolar and it can be controlled where you get more quality of life. I wish you well.
Hi Georgie
There is nothing that is simple about depression, it clearly sounds to me like you are suffering and being diagnosed is the most important thing you will do. We all think we can cope with the effects until they get to the point where they actually become life threatening. Please do deal with this alone if a friend can see the effects then you need to see a GP. This was the biggest step I had to take and I am glad I did.
Good luck hope you get the help you want xox
