Has anyone had any luck with groups or therapy etc.

I made an appointment for IAPT. Not sure what it involves just that I have to wait until well into October to get assessed for it.

Until then I'm on my own. Not sure what to expect.

Next on the list is some sort of therapy for my daughter. If she can't talk to me maybe she could talk to a stranger. Doesn't look like anyone wants to talk to me round here.

Hi. Sorry you did not get a response earlier.

IAPT, Improving Access to Psychological Therapies is not familiar to many people here who probably know acronyms for illnesses better than access to support.

I have gone though an IAPT process to get access to counselling.

I had to wait for a month or so but not the full 13 weeks they warned me about.

My first appointment was just a welcome chat about me and my concerns. I have had depression but now more anxiety and constant negative self talk in my head.

During the first chat the counselor/assessor was accepting and understanding just what I needed to feel my problems were real and treatable.

A couple of doctors did try to help but did not have the time to understand my condition and seemed to guess at medication options.

I now get CBT counselling. Cognitive Behavioual Therapy, which aims to give you tools and approaches to manage your thoughts and anxiety. It is helping me.

I have had regular counselling previously which helped me understand my condition, accept it is an illness too, which is a relief that it is not "just me" going mad.

Around here, Derbyshire, there seems to be a few ways to access support. It was a long wait through the NHS so the first time for counselling i opted to pay myself. As the service was a charity I paid what i could afford, just a tenner a session at the time but they did not expect payment and it was a voluntary contribution. It did help.

I dont know a lot about options for support for your daughter. I know my therapist offers family support but dont know how widespread that service is.

There is a lot of stuff online but you are right in saying talking to someone she can trust and get more support from is better than reading to much from the web.

Your post mentions you are on your own and that your daughter doesn't talk to you.

I feel like that with my 11 year old son at times.

I felt less lonely when in conversation on this site which helped me risk chatting to old friends as well as professionals.

If you want to share your worries, the real ones you have mentioned and how they affect your mental state you will get more support here.

I'm happy to share my experiences and you will get other perspectives from people with all sorts of different stores regarding help with mental issues.

Let me know how you're doing,

Take care

Dave
