UTI issues

Hi all,

Is it quite common to see blood in the urine with a UTI? My doctor says so but Googling has me believe it’s a kidney infection and I’m on the wrong antibiotics. I’ve had a UTI in the past and had the burning and pain but no visible blood?

Thanks

common, but not necessarily. Lots of UTIs don't have this symptom and blood may be present but not visible. I'd seek medical advice. Perhaps your pharmacy or nurse?

🙂 This can be due to specific bacteria related to UTI…be advised by your GP

I of course am not a doctor. First, did your doctor culture your urine ? That takes usually 24 to 48 hours and will reveal what antibiotics which will not work against what you have. I hope your doctor did that! If you don’t know, I would put in a call to their office now since it is a Friday. I would never have thought this was was common, blood in the urine, but Dr Google says yes. If the blood does not go away after 3 days call immediately. , If you have lower back pain, go to urgent care or the ER. Don’t mess around with a possible kidney infection. Your insurance card will probably have a 24 hour free nurses helpline staffed by nurses (obviously). Don’t hesitate to call it if you can’t get through to your doctor’s office, or if you’really worried. Be aware they often tell callers to go to the ER to be safe. Not sure where you live, but you may have to wait hours at the ER until they can get to you. They’re pretty slammed around where I live. Stay on top of it.

It isn't uncommon. I had many UTI's throughout my life. Mostly negative for blood. Occasionally blood does show up. Give the antibiotic time to work. It should disappear. If you still have blood and symptoms a few days before last dose let your doctor know. Blood isn't the biggest indicator of an issue. Do you have flank pain? That would suggest kidney infection. I've had several of them as well.

And blood is an indicator if kidney stones as well. But, you would most likely have flank pain.

Not what you're looking for?
