Your GP should at least have done a dip test but better to send off a sample for proper analysis so you are put on the right antib, anyway 3 days of antibs is often not enough as all it does is damp down any infection then it comes back with a vengeance.

Personally I would be visiting my local minor injuries for more antibs if symptoms were still a problem, they will at least do a test !

How long should I take antibiotics for a urinary tract infection (UTI)?

ANSWER

Your doctor will let you know. Typically, for an uncomplicated infection, you'll take antibiotics for 2 to 3 days. Some people will need to take these medicines for up to 7 to 10 days. For a complicated infection, you might need to take antibiotics for 14 days or more.

If you get UTIs often, you may need to take low-dose antibiotics every day for 6 months or longer -- and if sex causes your UTIs, you'll take a dose of the medicine right before you have sex.

My husband got 14 days of antibiotics and it seems to have done the trick but he did supply a urine sample which they said was negative! He definitely did have an infection - it caused 48 hours of the runs -especially at night in the bed! - and much tingling when passing urine - up 5/6 times at night and strangely a vicious sore throat! He has fully recovered thankfully. He did have to go for a blood test since finishing the antibiotics - no result given as yet but time yet to hear about that.

Hi! I used to suffer with UTI’s regularly and they’re just the worst😣 Usually after a day of taking antibiotics, the symptoms would have been mostly relieved, but there was one time when I did need another course after the 3 days worth of antibiotics as they just did not clear the infection. I’d get back in touch with your GP and ask for more!

Low estrogen can cause uti's...check your hormones with an endocrinologist. I get bloated & 3 days of meds isn't enough. The bacteria will laugh at that!! Check out MicroGen DX online..they use DNA for their urine tests. You do it at home & send it back but you do need a doctor to sign for it.
