Can anyone explain to me how 50 mg of prednisone a day for 5 days can elevate symptoms (inflammation in nasal passages) for months?

I took steroids for a few weeks and then stopped and then had to again and so on. Blocked nose and much else came with it.

Are you saying you took the steroids for the blocked nose and the blockage kept coming back? How long after taking the steroids would it come back. I was advised taking 50 mg for 5 days and hopefully that would stop the blockage for some months.

wiserlady, thank you for all your help. One more question…when you took the 5 days of prednisone, how long did the symptoms go away until they came back?

it might be a month, maybe two, it depended, and hard to remember after such a long time, but it did seem to be quicker as time went on

Was the steroids just for the blocked nose or something else as well? What are you doing now about it? The same? Steroids every 2 months? I heard rinsing whole doing the steroids will work very well.

My husband had to take for RA. Its a nasty drug. Can I ask why perscribed?? Suggest researching the side effects and go from there.

What is RA? I’m thinking if taking it for nasal inflammation which is causing nose blockage. Only for 5 days and after that I’m done.

Prednisone is a steroid which is good against inflammation, but can reduce your immune system, so should only be used short term if possible. I was prescribed it in a nasal spray but now just use Sudafed nasal spray if can't sniff up each nostril separately and down the other
