I’ve been trying to lose weight for weeks, I’m on a diet that has always worked for me up until now, I’m on weight watchers and I exercise but nothing is coming off. I’ve not even lost 1 pound since starting this diet again. I’ve kept to the calories I’m supposed to have and ate nothing that I shouldn’t. I’m really worried. I’m only 21 so I don’t think I have a thyroid problem. I’m 5’4 and weigh 8 stone 12.

I have just stumbled across this forum on health unlocked.
You don't sound overweight to me, but I suppose it's how you feel within yourself.
Incase you don't already know, there is also a weight loss forum on health unlocked, where you will be able to get some very helpful advice and tips, not to mention, great support.
Are you overweight at 8 stone 12 and 5’4 ?? It doesn’t sound like it to me.
Concentrate on a healthy diet rather than a weight loss one.
Sometimes low fat, low calorie is not the right route. Try higher fat and protein and low sugar and no processed food or snacks. Just three healthy meals a day.
Hi Thankyou for replying , Sorry I didn’t know there was that kind of forum. I know technically I’m not over weight but I used to be much slimmer I think that’s why I feel this way, let’s hope so xx
I am fairly new on HU myself...but if you put the web address for health unlocked...then a / and type in the forum name, it will probably open up for you.
I hope this makes sense.
I am on my mobile phone atm, but if I go onto my computer, I can probably forward you the links.
PM me, if you can't find them, and I will see if I can forward you the links
I've checked your BMI, which is lovely and central within the BMI range, so please be careful how much weight you are seeking to lose here.
If you are finding it difficult to lose weight despite a concerted effort, it can point to other issues, for example vitamin deficiencies have a major impact. Do you have any symptoms suggestive of deficiencies?
Calorie counting alone doesn't always work - too few calories will slow the metabolism, and the slower metabolism will stick around if you have a habit of yo-yo dieting. Your diet needs to be maintainable, so focus on food quality, lots of nutrient dense foods, and making it your lifestyle.
In terms of thyroid, under-active thyroids can be diagnosed at any age. Many primary school children are being diagnosed these days, so it is a possibility at 21. If your weight is the only issue, it's unlikely that's your issue though.
Hi Thankyou , I have a vitamin b12 deficiency which I get injections for every 3 months, I’m due one next week, maybe this could be why I’m not losing anything ? Not sure , I don’t have any other symptoms of the thyroid. Yes I definitely have yo yo dieted through the years !
B12 can be an issue, for me vitamin D deficiency also didn't help. If your doctor tested that, it's worth finding out what your result was. The doctor defines deficiency as <25, my level was 25.3, so they said I was ok, but you will be affected by low vitamin D symptoms if your result is <75.
The B12 injection might help. Is it for pernicious anemia, or were you just deficient?
Pernicious anemia can point to gut issues - very often those with autoimmune conditions have something called "leaky gut". That can impact your ability to lose weight, so you might benefit from looking at a gut healing protocol that includes probiotics. It may not impact your weight much, but it can help reduce your risk of developing other autoimmune conditions.
Hi, there is a PA forum on here too that you might find useful 😊 if you search on here under communities you’ll find it. B12D can relate to weight and many other things. Regarding weight, a meta analysis of the studies about bmi relating to health problems was done by I think Paul Campos, it was called the big fat myth, or the big fat lie I think, he found that the healthiest category was in fact slightly to fairly overweight. One step up from ‘ideal’ bmi. I wonder if the difference in findings between the individual studies and the meta analysis relates in any way to the individual studies having been commissioned by diet drug companies...
