I have read a few things on here about fibroids and what you all been through. I have had a difficult journey with doctors to get here, they have messed up and in so many words admitted it. I have surgery to have a total hysterectomy, I am really struggling with this. Has anyone else had a hysterectomy and not yet had children? How did it feel after? What was recovery like? Also, I am having a vertical incision...What is that like?

Large Fibroids and upcoming surgery
Hello LeighLL, in 2004 I had a myomectomy to remove large fibroids. My cut was horizontal. Since then I've had 2 laparoscopic procedures to deal with regrown fibroids. I'm now 49, no kids and the fibroids are bigger than ever, cause no ends of problems and I am not close to menopause. I will have a partial hysterectomy (not removing the cervix) on 21 February and the surgeon will use the same horizontal cut at the bikini line.
I struggled a bit with the finality of the choice - I took a few months to decide after getting the last results. I am now more or less resigned although not yet at the point of full acceptance. At 49, it may be a slightly easier decision than if I were younger but it's still not straightforward. I can share my recovery experience in a few weeks.
Best wishes.
Hi BeginnerSR, sorry you had such a time with fibroids over the years with no final resolution. I agree the decision is a difficult one and something that can not be decided lightly or quickly. It is hard to get your head around to really understand what it means, regardless of age.
I will share my experience and recovery aswel.
All the best to you
