Hi, I have just had a period for just over 7 weeks, with blood clots and pain , it was very heavy. So called doctor and they gave me some tablets to stop the bleeding. Took them for 10 days and then started bleeding again bad . While waiting for scans, doctor gave me some different tablets to stop bleeding, I had to take them for 4 days. I didn't start bleeding again and I've had my scan. It's come back with fibroid. Just wondering what the doctor will do now. My last period was last May and that lasted 6 weeks. But this time it just wouldn't stop without any tablets. As anyone else had this kind of problem. Any advice would be appreciated xx

Yes. You better start educating yourself on fibroids before your next appointment. Usually first step is to try to control bleeding with hormones (combination pill or progesterone only) . If that works you have to keep monitoring because they can grow and give new problems . If progesteron works they might offer iud (mirena) that help some women. If it doesnt help or hormones have too many side effects (my issue) then there is embolisation, sonata (new, what i want to try) . Next step surgery either the fibroid (they grow back some times) or the whole uterus.

Very important to check iron levels! Anyhow, it doesn't go away by itself and there is no simple answer but depends on yourage and wishes.

You must feel so weak losing all that blood.Fibroids can disappear but I know now that if a woman keeps bleeding it is an emergency like people who have chest pains.

When it happened to me and I got those tablets to stop the bleeding my GP at the time said "if the bleeding had stopped then what's the problem?"

I said I wanted to know who WHY I had had this problem.

A man I worked with said it was disgraceful of the GP to say that.

Don't give up until you get some answers.
