Fibroids

I’ve just been told I have a 5cm fibroid in my womb and I’m really worried about it. My main concern is the impact it could have on my fertility. What is the best form of treatment? I’m already confused by all the info on the internet. Any advice would be appreciated

Hi Mariam5,

I’m blessed with pesky fibroids! And horrendous heavy prolonged periods we are talking 2 month long periods! Mainly looking like I’m pregnant! Most the time or running on empty due to all the blood loss!I’m also going for further investigations.

Dependent on size location they can affect fertility. But I’ve had two successful pregnancies while having them and mine were quite hefty. So hope does exist. I only had removal of them in 2019 but they have since decided to come back! I’ve not had ablation surgery they just shaved them!

It is confusing with the options I read until my head spun! And different doctors have different treatments or suggestions. I was scheduled to have an ablation in 2019 but before surgery changed my mind at last min! My surgeon said I had to do what my gut said and it said it wasn’t the right time! Take my hat of to the surgeon for having that view point, don’t know if it was because she was a woman but I’ve never come across a surgeon with that sort of bedside manner was a refreshing change.

Good luck and keep us posted

🤗x

Hi! I'm 25 and I found out that I have a large fibroid (10cm x 8cm) behind my uterus and I am currently waiting on a gynaecology appointment on the 11th Feb. I had an ultrasound and MRI because I haven't had a period in over 2 years after stopping the contraceptive injection. I get VERY bloated at the end of the day and get uncomfortable feeling in my stomach but no major symptoms. I'm also feeling apprehensive about possible treatment going forward - so many varying options from what I've read. I'm hoping to have a baby in the next 5 years or so and hoping this won't hinder my chances...
