HPV but no abnormal cells

Hi everyone,

Just wondered if anyone has experienced similar and can relate.

In December 19 I had my last smear test, and I'd always had normal smears before that. It showed up that I had HPV but no abnormal cells, so they asked me to come back in 12 months time for a follow up smear.

The day I got my results I quit smoking after having smoked for 12 years, I started eating healthier and taking vitamins, and I started running. I just felt dirty and disgusting having HPV and it really affected me. I had no idea that smear tests were changing to testing this first and it really took me by surprise.

Fast forward to 21 November and I had my second smear test. It felt almost like judgement day, seeing if all the work I'd put in all year has paid off. I still haven't gotten the results yet but I just wanted to ask this community for advice on the following?

- if HPV was detected is this because it's the high risk one? 16 or 18? Does any other strain show up on the test?

- has anyone smoked, then quit, managing to get rid of the virus by doing so?

- has anyone gotten rid of HPV after a year?

Lastly, I've now changed my pill to Norgeston due to mood changes with Noriday and it's causing me to have 2 week cycles with spotting - at least I'm hoping it's norgeston that's causing it, and not another issue with the HPV and perhaps now abnormal cells. As you can tell - my mind is haywire!

Thank you so much for any insight or relatable experiences, I would really appreciate some advice.

Xxx

Hiya, I don’t really have any advice but just here to say I’m in the same boat as you. HPV last year in November, awaiting results from my smear I had done 4 weeks ago. However have had spotting now and then between periods for a few months, went for an examination at the gp and she could see something on my cervix so has referred me to gynaecologist (appointment tomorrow!).

Fingers crossed everything is okay for you x

Thanks so much for sharing your experience Mef95. I really hope you're ok and your appointment goes well. Will you let us know?

To try and calm my nerves I'm associating my spotting and changes in cycle to this new pill I'm taking - but who knows at this point!

I hope it all goes ok for you xxx

I will do. Feeling nervous as I think I’m having my colposcopy tomorrow too. I’m just glad the ball is rolling after so many years of suffering. I’ve recently gone back on the pill, however the first spotting between periods happened whilst I wasn’t on the pill and that’s when the doctor found something on my cervix. Will update you tomorrow.
