So confused about weight loss!

I am currently struggling with weight loss and confused about which plan to follow. I lost 2.5 stone with Weight Watchers previously and I've gained about 2 stone back over time. I am now trying Slimming World and it worked when I first started it but then I kept craving bread. Weight Watchers have changed their system since I was successful with it, and I find it too hard now. I do work out though and I enjoy it, but I know I have to watch my food intake to lose weight. My personal trainer says to do MyFitnessPal has anyone lost weight with this? I am diabetic (type 2) so losing weight is important to me and I am annoyed with myself for gaining weight again. Any words of wisdom appreciated! Thanks!

Hi Hidden

Welcome to the weight loss froum.

I follow the nhs 12 week plan and have lost 5st 3lbs so far which i'm really pleased with.

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.

To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.

Have a good first week.

Rose

Hi Hidden , I have been using MFP to log calories and exercise. It's pretty good and free to use. As far as I can see it's only for logging and not like ww and SW where I assume you get recipes & points/allowances.

I've just been logging all food in it and keeping below my NHS recommended calorie intake. I get recipes from lean in 15 and other healthy eating books.

Good luck!

Thank you

MFP is very good. It takes a while to get the hang of it, and make the best use of it, but it is very helpful. I also find the blogs very helpful and interesting too.

I don't know about SW but years ago I went to WW. The thing is with these organisations is they make it seem like they are the only ones who can help you crack a secret code, with their points and what have you. And of course you have to pay for that! But calorie counting with the NHS 12 week plan and using MFP is free. There is no secret to it, it's very simple. Eat less calories, eat healthily, a balanced diet, and you will lose weight. Most of us on here will attest to that. Good luck!

Welcome princessleia29. Like the other comments I use MyFitnessPal to log food and exercise but I follow the NHS 12 week plan and this forum to get tips, motivation and generally chat about my weight lose journey. I used both SW and WW and like you I lost weight then put it on again. I found both programmes hard to follow. But with this forum it's really easy. There is no hard and fast rules and people do things differently depending on where they are and how much weight they want to loose. Good luck

I have been using MyFitnessPal too but only for most of my calorie counting as I am sticking to NHS bmi calculator for calorie amounts as mfp amounts are nowhere near what they should be for most of us. With SW and WW I don't believe they help at all and just make money out of us. Every person I have ever known go to them have dropped weight but then put it straight back on again. At least with doing this by calorie counting and the 12 week plan we don't pay for it and it does work. I look at this as a life change and not as a diet.

By the way because you struggle with losing weight have you ever counted your calories on a site and do you know how many you should be having in a day. Check this out on the NHS bmi calculator to start with as this gives you a good amount to have daily that is personally for you. Many of the other sites like the MyFitnessPal and others that calorie count just tend to give you average amounts for everyone that is not enough. It is important to eat enough that the bmi tell you to lose weight because if you don't your body will think that you are starving it and turns what you do eat into body fat and this weighs more than eating the extra calories does so it stops you from losing weight and sometimes puts weight on instead. This is what I did when I first joined this site and have stuck to this ever since. With MyFitnessPal it was telling me to eat about 600 Cals less to what the bmi calculator said. I have managed to lose 2st since changing my calorie amounts.
