hi everyone, my plan was to start tomorrow on calories but it’s my birthday and my son announced yesterday they are taking me out for a Indian meal, what could I say, so I will be good all day and then just have my curry and rice, will not have a Nan bread and I don’t drink so hopefully it will not be to bad. Calories is what I have lost on in the past, been dieting it seems all my life but I’m just getting bigger and bigger, I am 73 tomorrow and I feel my health is suffering especially my knees and feet, I want to focus on a stone at a time, I would just like to feel and look better for this summer (if we get one)!!!!!!
My eating is very basic at the moment I do have a lot of pre packed meals as I am unable to stand for long, would love to start cooking again nice meals, hopefully of if I can start losing this will happen. Well I will weighin Tuesday and post my weight, good luck to everyone.😄

Hi 24paula and welcome back to our friendly forum. Firstly, happy birthday for tomorrow, I hope you have a lovely day and are truly spoilt. Waiting to officially start your journey until Tuesday is a good idea, and as you say, it doesn't mean you want to go mad tomorrow
As a calorie counter, don't forget to check your calorie target now. I believe it changes as we age. There are plenty of sites on line that will do this, its usually the BMI checkers. Its great to see you choosing smaller targets, I certainly believe it works better than looking at the full loss required. That's how I did it. I actually went smaller and counted my weight loss by the weight of a tin of baked beans and built an imaginary tower out of them until it just got too big lol You could go for every half stone achieved. I think when our targets come around quicker it helps with our motivation
We recommend our members join in with the Weekly Weigh In and the Daily Diary as a minimum. They are both great places to get lots of support and advice. We have a January Challenge going that you might enjoy, Its to change or add one more thing.
Hi thanks for the welcome it’s not my first time on Healthunlocked I have posted on different issues, this is my biggest!!!! Yes I agree maybe I should go for a smaller target so maybe half a stone at a time as I do have a lot of weight to move. Yes I will do my weighin on Tuesday and try everyday to do my daily diary, I will also look at the January Challenge, still looking round the site at the moment. Can’t wait to start and get to know others working there way yo there goals!! 😀

Years ago it took me several months to bravely weigh myself.I knew I had gained weight, but I had no idea how much. Eventually I bought new scales and jumped on. It was a shock, more than expected. I cried all day.
Next day I researched how to tackle it, counted the calories, more veg, more protein, more walking, less processed, less sugar. Slow and steady. The slower the loss, the less damage to your metabolism and the easier it is to maintain a healthy weight longterm. You can do this !
