Hello folks, opening the door for anyone who wants a chat, to reflect, look forward or just for a bit of company.
What will you be doing over New Year's Eve/Day? Are you meeting up with friends or having a quiet time at home? Are you still finishing off the Christmas eats? Are you having a special meal?
Will you be glad to see the back of 2023? Have you any plans for 2024 - weight-related or otherwise? Are there any special events coming up?
Wishing everyone good things in the year ahead and do drop in if you're at a loose end 😊

My New Year’s resolution for 2023 was to walk an average of 7500 steps per day every week and I did it all weeks of the year except two weeks when I was sick. I’m proud of that achievement 🥂
I want 2024 to be the year where I get back to a healthy BMI and stay there. I’m not far off (only 5 kg), but the difficult part is maintaining.
I will keep up my 7500 steps per day goal and focus on getting 8 hours of sleep every night 🛌 .
I’m looking forward to reading about everyone’s plans for 2024.
That's really impressive! Shows you're able to make a plan and stick to it.
You don't have far to go to reach your goal but, as you say, the challenge is maintaining it. I think it's a question of keeping focused and of finding the right way of eating that's also enjoyable. I should say I'm preaching to myself here 😊
NYE is always a bit conflictive for me...On one hand I love the family celebration and seeing the New Year in...On the other hand I want to wake up fresh and energized to start January 1st with the right intention.
For me 2024 will be about finding the balance - I went on a weight loss journey in 2022 and since then have sometimes felt pressure to maintain my lower weight...I think I place it upon myself to be honest. I am going to focus on being consistent with my key goals like the gym, and introduce flexibility training and yoga to hopefully improve a few aches and pains I've collected over the years.
Have a great celebration, and Happy New Year Everyone!
Hello BridgeGirlIt's been a mixed year for me I have had some lovely happy days and then some very worrying ones
It started at New Year sitting in A&E with our son after he suffered 2 seizures
Then a couple of weeks later I had to call 999 and my husband was rushed to A&E with a suspected stroke It wasn't thank God and he's fine but it was very scary
Our son continues to have seizures and he spent his 40th birthday in A&E in March He has had 4 when staying here 2 on Christmas Eve but he was ok and we had a wonderful Christmas and a houseful with all our family which was bliss
In July a close friend suffered a heart attack but had a triple by pass and is very well now
So I will be glad that 2023 for those reasons but we also started babysitting for our beautiful granddaughter in January which has brought us so much joy
In April I found an exercise class that has literally changed my life It's like standing poses in yoga and stretching every part and it's given me a new lease of life as I have arthritis and I feel great for it The people there are just so nice my husband goes too and its just lovely
Had a wonderful holiday in Devon in October and have had very happy days out all year
I entered a village show never having done anything like it before I knitted a little cardigan for our granddaughter and did a drawing I left them to be judged and was very nervous going back To my joy I got a 1st for both and was then presented with a trophy for most points in the arts and crafts section
So now I have to lose more weight I lost 2 stone on this lovely forum and I want to lose at least another stone
I think I better stop rambling on I bet you wished you hadn't asked 😂
Wishing everyone a very Happy Healthy Peaceful New Year x
It has indeed been a mixed year for you, with some real joys and triumphs among the worries and upsets. I'm very impressed with your first prizes: they'll see you coming next year 😀 And it will be lovely to see your little granddaughter growing and developing, and being a part of it, with her.
I hope your son's condition can be stabilised and wish you all a happy and healthy 2024
I hope you have a wonderful 2024 and they manage to sort your son’s seizures. One of my sisters I care for began having them in June and they can’t seem to agree as to what is causing them. She had six seizures over Christmas and is still in hospital. Hopefully the neurologist will have more info for us on Friday when we see him.
It’s lovely to hear about your creativity in 2023. You are really brave in entering a competition. I wouldn’t dare. You have done amazingly well. Good luck!! Take care x
So sorry to hear about your sisterIt's such a horrible thing to suffer with
I do hope that you will get some answers on Friday and they find the cause
Our son had an EEG on Thursday where they attached electrodes on his head it's like an ECG for the brain So we are waiting for the results
I do feel for you so much as it's so distressing to see a loved one have seizures
Thank you I'm not sure how I had the courage to enter the show or how I managed to get up the stairs to the stage to receive the trophy It was just so wonderful I've been knitting since I was 9 years old and drawing since my earliest memories so it was just amazing
Wishing you and your sister all the very very best x
Yes. We are awaiting EEG results too. Her fits have been worse because she had a bad chest infection. I hope you get some helpful news about your son. It’s hard when they keep hitting brick walls! Hopefully 2024 will bring better news for you xx
So sorry to hear your sister has something else to cope with. I hope you hear something useful from the neurologist and they can get this under control
Hello BridgeGirl. This is such a great idea. I'll be spending it alone listening to some soothing music and relaxing with a book. I'd like to find the book club.
I plan to return slowly to my walking plan due to current back issue. Interested in yoga. I live in a very rural area that doesn't have yoga classes, so I'll be checking online. Any suggestions would be appreciated 👍
Hi Jerry02, it's been great to see you joining in around the forum and I'm sure you'll get plenty of support throughout 2024.
You've found the Weigh-in and the Daily Diary. The Book Club, Read All About It, is in the same list of posts which you can find by clicking on this link healthunlocked.com/weight-l... I suggest you wait until tomorrow: there's a new post on the 1st of each, and again on 16th. Hosts are Grigid and Aginghippy , and there are plenty of regulars who you'll soon get to know
We also have a Fit is Fun Club for members of all abilities. This can be found by following the same link as BridgeGirl has given you (7th on the list)
I have some roast root veg on the go as it's my favourite weekly treat meal
I have some mulled wine in the kitchen for if/when I remember it's there later on. I am going to continue watching Doctor Who today and will have an early night,
No resolutions for me but have goals for 2024
1. 2 stone weight loss
2. At least a couple of walks outside to the cash point and/or the post box as I am mostly housebound
Enjoy your evening Roast root veg is one of my winter favourites, too: I particularly like beetroot and parsnips.
It's good to set yourself attainable goals for exercise/activity. If you scroll up, you'll see that moreless has posted a video on chair-based exercises
Hi There. I have saved the video of chair-based exercises so I can add it to my new routine. I need to set my alarm earlier so I get some exercise sorted before people start knocking on the door and/or phoning me
I have been listening to Dr Michael Mosley's book on sleep. He also writes on weight loss and reversing type 2 Diabetes. He is one of my 'go-to' authors for medical advice relating to my situation as my GP is decades out of date.
He came out with the Low Carb Programme. I just looked him up and discovered I had no idea he was the doctor behind it. Dr Michael Mosely was someone I already knew about before Dr Unwin's programme. Professor Roy Taylor's fast weight loss programme to reverse type 2 was rolled out on the NHS several years ago, only my GP has not offered it in my town
Good afternoon BridgeGirl and fellow forum users. Many moons ago we would go out for NYE, not anymore, I don't particularly like it. We shall be staying in and quite possibly be still awake at midnight😂😂2023 was a good year, but 2024 will be a great year.❤️
I have a few things planned in the first half of the year , theatre trip end of January, birthday in February, daughters hen do in March, wedding anniversary in April and then my daughters wedding in May.
I don't do resolutions, though I have intentions for 2024
Get back into healthier habits. I am going to undertake the NHS 12 week weightloss program as I need the structure of calorie counting to kick start.
Up my running miles ( I aim to have run 1000+ miles by 31.12.24)
Embrace the little wins
My proudest achievement for 2024 was completing the Chester Metric Marathon in October. I'm doing it again in 2024 and I aim to do it faster!!
Wishing everyone a fabulous evening and a harmonious New Year 🎉🎉
Lots of things to look forward to, and achievements to build on
Hi Bridge girl
An up and down year for me letting go of a dead relationship eventually but happier for it. I'm a hopeless romantic so im hoping 2024 well watch this space and I'll keep watching my waistline lol . Happy new year xx
Sorry to hear that that relationship didn't work out, and wishing you all the best for 2024. Enjoy your own company, and time with friends, and maybe something better will come your way just when you're not expecting it
Great attitude as always Hidden …I can’t remember who used to say they were a hopeFUL romantic! Perhaps 2024 is going to be a year for you to focus on yourself. Who knows what might happen…although I’m not the best person to offer advice! Happy new year! xx
Ahh Alideer your always one of my biggest supporters as you say definitely time to focus on myself but I will be a hopeful romantic that sounds wonderful happy new year to you xx
hi BG. Hope you had a great new year’s weekend. Sorry to join the party late! My sister had been ill and my other sister is staying and taking my energies. My OHs oncologist rang just before Christmas to say they had found more tumours and they have stopped chemo while he goes to various consultations. So a really hard time for us. But tonight my daughters and SIL brought the grandchildren to stay with us and we all sang auld lang syne and it was great. What will be will be and we will be ok. I hope you and those who have joined this thread have a wonderful 2024. Looking forward to journeying with you on our health improvements!!!
What a lot for you all to deal with, with you at the hub of it (I thought from your post above that it was the sister who needs ongoing support who had been ill).
I'm sure the grandchildren are bringing some joy and fun at the start of 2024
yes the grandchildren always cheer me up. Sorry if I confused you. I care for two of my sisters. 2023 was very difficult. My new year aims are to learn how to carve out time for me! It’s easier said than done but I have to learn!
I hope you have a lovely 2024 my friend. May it bring you all the best things! X
Thank you. At the moment, it's bringing me early Spring cleaning - bag for the charity shop now in the boot, and wool and knitting needles being bagged for a friend who volunteers with a refugee charity, for their craft groups: the knitting was a long abandoned lockdown fad 😊
Good morning BridgeGirl, Happy New Year. Well, I have had a good time being a bad girl so now I have to pay the piper and sort out my blob of about 6Lbs. I am going to work and get my 3 Stone badge back, by jingo I am, my New Year starts in earnest tomorrow. Thank you to all on this wonderful forum, onwards and downwards/maintaining for all of us. Take care xxxx
good luck with retrieving your 3 stone badge back. My aim is to reclaim my 2st badge then head towards my 3st. I hope 2024 brings you good things. All my best wishes!! X
