I'm a newbie I did the weigh yesterday! It wasn't pretty - my scales are dodgy but I settled on 16st 10 unbelievable!! I'm 5ft 4" with a BMI of 42. I'm greedy I'm married to a man who is 6ft 3" & I weigh more than him (a fact I keep well hidden!) I insist on having the same portion sizes has him I used to go mad if I felt I was being short changed - I'm getting better at that! We are married 24yrs, this September will be our 25th it would be nice not to be almost twice the woman he married (that's a bit of an exaggeration but not much lol)! I'm struggling with a bad back, rickety hips & a dodgy right knee - I struggle to walk too far let a lone exercise so I'm really hoping to get a bit of weight off so I can start doing some of that! It creeps up on you all this doesn't it?!
I've really been watching my calories & using the FatSecret App to log them - my problem is around 3.30 I crave sugar & would trample your granny to get a 'fix' of cake, sweets or whatever other bad thing that is on constant offer in my office - why do people bring in cakes for birthdays? I just don't get it & of course it's the mainly overweight ones that scoff it!!! I'm amazed at some (skinny as rakes) people's will-power!
Anyhow that's me!! I hope I haven't bore you I suppose my goal is 2Ib a week (how many weeks to September?) I'm doing dry January & looking for other buddies that have 'mountains' to climb I promise not to become stalkish like Aussiegirls weigh buddy BTW I would just lie!!!
This for reading!!!!

Welcome to the weight loss forum, we are a friendly bunch here.
Take a look at the "Welcome Newbies" in the pinned post on the right hand side. The post contain a link to the nhs 12 week plan and a BMI checker to calculate your daily calorie allowance.
Feel free to join in with any of the challenges also in the pinned post section. They are fun and keep us all motivated to move more.
Yes the weight does crept up on us all, but following the nhs 12 week plan will help to get back on track and start to do some gentle exercise.
Join in on our weigh-ins, we have them from Monday to Saturday so you can chose which day suits you best.
Good luck. You will do it. You've been very sensible setting your sights on a small achievable goal. Don't eat too little. That was my mistake when I started and it was when I took the forums advice to up my calories, within my allowance of course, that I started to lose. Good luck.👏
Good morning Yviemcg ☺ Welcome to the Weight Loss Forum
You sound just like I was 18 months ago. My weight was making me miserable, my joints were very painful and I was struggling to walk and live the life I wanted 😕 My hubby is also slim and for the first time in years I now weigh less than him ☺ We have also been married 25 years this year and I am trying to fit back in my wedding dress. Almost there ☺
You are doing all the right things ☺ I find eating a little more, earlier in the day, helps the mid afternoon sugar cravings. I follow a generous plan anyway as I intend to use it for life. But I eat a good breakfast and a generous lunch, containing protein and carbohydrates. Have you checked your BMI and target calories? It's important not to go too low or you will get very hungry and won't lose weight any faster, in fact, probably hinder it.
I hope you are enjoying the forum, we are a very friendly group so please ask if you have any questions ☺
Try and tell him. I've just told my hubby for the first time and we've been married nearly 31 years - for 25 of those I've been fat and now I have over 6 stone to lose. I have his full support. In the past if I was trying to shed weight, we ate different things for dinner every night and I was miserable, now we eat the same and he's enjoying the food and smaller portion sizes (he needs to lose about a stone). I now feel that I will not only be letting myself down if I don't get healthy, but him too, gives me an extra reason to do this...xx
Having gone through a rather traumatic time in November/December, I am now ready to tackle my weight problem. I am 5ft 1in and on 2nd Jan weighed in at 14st 6. So I either need to lose a few stone or grow a foot taller!
Like you I am a sucker for sweet stuff and carb laden foodstuffs - how yummy are crisps? And we all have the cakes, pork pies and sausage rolls coming in on birthdays at work. There are 5 in January for goodness sake!!! Trying to keep away from it all, but it is difficult. I try to keep in mind why I am doing this and I have a very unflattering picture on my phone for my screen lock picture, so I see it whenever I use my phone. I am planning to update the picture as I go along and hopefully, it will be more acceptable as I lose weight - otherwise I will be stuck with it for the year!
I have started on an exercise regime, which my other half (skinny as a lath and eats twice as much as me) is supporting me in, plus I try to go for a walk every lunchtime with a couple of colleagues.
I weighed myself on Monday and have lost 1 1/2 lbs, so this is going in the right direction.
Hear you on the foot taller!! I wish!! I have been actively looking at WLS due to my back & hips & the inability to do exercise …but it frightens me the long term affects of it … so this is my last big go @ trying to lose weight under my own steam!
Well done on you on your weight loss I'm sure we'll get there!!
I hear you with 3:30pm sugar cravings. I always get a slump then. I've been either eating a yoghurt or oatcakes and it seems to get me through it. I work in the NHS (not front line) and the amount of cake on offer is unbelievable at times!
…I wonder if it's a physical thing the craving at that time?! Fortunately pickings are a bit sparse in our office at the moment!!! I'm going to try something like you!!
I think everyone decided to dump their Christmas goodies to lose weight, not really thinking that they were inadvertently tripling their chance of eating something unhealthy by all dumping it at once. I've been avoiding the staff room!
