Hi all, this time last year I was 3 stone overweight, I lost a stone in the spring, but then ran out of motivation to lose more. I maintained that loss all the way to December but the pre and post Christmas food has added a whopping 5 lb back again, no wonder my jeans are tight! Weekly weigh ins didn't work for me - the only way I can lose weight is slow and steady but with the natural fluctuations some weeks will show a maintain and some even a small gain, which I know is normal but it killed my motivation. I'm hoping that by weighing monthly I will at least see some loss. It's worth a try anyway if I can be that patient! I've actually started today as yesterday was the last of the Christmas get togethers and I couldn't bring myself to refuse my 82 yr old ex mum in laws lovingly prepared chocolate tart! Wanted to post this so I could see it written down rather than just in my head. Good luck to everyone starting or restarting or continuing with their own plans ☀️

New plan for the new year - monthly weighing.
I might have to pinch that monthly idea 😉
Everyone is different yet we are all the same and what works for one doesn't for another. Monthly weekly it doesn't matter. What matters is what you put in your mouth. Too much and you gain, a little less and you lose. I said goodbye to my family today and tomorrow I clear the house of unhealthy food and start again. It's up to me at the end of the day with the help of this community. Good luck everyone.
Hi Florence, you're right it really doesn't matter what route we choose as long as we're going in the right direction ☀️
Hi Fran,
My friend does monthly weigh-in and has lost a whopping 7.5 stones so it definitely works for some
Well done for the stone lost and maintaining so far. The extra 5lb will drop off once you start losing again.
Good luck
I know it seems so unfair, it's just you're body adjusting . Don't stop , keep going , you will reep the rewards, promise!!!! Stick with it you will feel fab if you do xx
Hi Fran,
First of all, a big well done for losing a stone and managing to maintain for sooooo long. I think five mins is my record at maintaining
5lbs is nothing after a Christmas blow-out and as Sueper said, you'll soon lose that.
If monthly weigh-ins are for you, then go for it. I personally need to be kept on track - it would be way too easy for me to say, oh it doesn't matter about that extra, I'll work it off tomorrow, next week, the week after, until I'd run out of days and ended up showing a gain after a month, which would be much more demoralising
Here's to 2016 seeing your weight loss kick started into action
Hi Moreless, I did wonder if the monthly weigh in would make it too easy to cheat, but I'm really hoping that if I see a loss at the end of Jan it will keep me going. You have done incredibly well and you are an inspiration ! ☀️
You won't know until you've tried Fran, these journeys of ours are a steep learning curve and we have to attempt new things if we're to find exactly the right path for us as individuals
Thanks for your kind words I'm pleased with my journey so far, but I know I've got a long way to go and am bound to come up against a few stumbling blocks
Fran
Look at it this way, you lost weight in 2015 and will do so again in 2016.
I replied in another post that it is all a learning experience and that it all takes time. I myself wanted to keep of the scales but they are sitting there in the bathroom so every morning I have a moan......
I did however create a graph and listed my weight every two weeks. This showed a downward trend until November when a holiday and Christmas got in the way. By looking at the chart I realised that despite various set-backs overall I was winning.
All the best for 2016.
Hi Denram, the graph is a great idea! I used to have an app on my old phone that did that but the new ones not so good, and it would be good to have that visual reminder, so I might get out my sons old colouring pencils! ☀️

I am in my 60's and believe that "Keep it simple son" or KISS is the best way.
Graph and coloured pencils, kept on a sheet of paper tucked behind the mirror, gives an easy visual record of progress.
Mine, an Excel spread sheet, pops up on my PC when I update what I have done over the week, taken from my diary.
I plan to exercise e.g. go out for a walk 3 times a week, more in summer as I don't do the cold..
Hey Fran
Weighing monthly is a good idea, weekly weigh ins can cause problems especially if the scales don't move, move just a little or go up!
good luck to you too
