I have been struggling withy weight for years. I started putting on weight when I started depression medication. Now I'm over 50 still battling obesity. Growing up I was very active, but that has decreased due arthritis and joint replacements. I'm starting a new year looking for support from others.

I want to learn yogaIncrease my walking
Good morning BridgeGirl and All. It's been a few days since I have had a post. I have my Dr visit Saturday to discuss my MRI report. I'm having lower back pain and what's thought to be a nerve impingement and degenerative disc disease so it imperative I lose about 50 pounds. I've began to be able to resume my walking and yoga with Adrienne. I'm own medication which has greatly relieved some of the pain and numbness. I'm sure they will send me to a neurologist. So please keep me in your prayers.
Everyone have an awesome day!

That's fine I'm learning my way around the site.
hi I am arthritic and very over weight but I have lost six stone in the past couple of years. Can I ask if you have had your thyroid checked recently? It is an undiagnosed and under treated illness that is often missed and can often lead to depression and weight gain. People are often told bloods are normal when some treatment would be helpful. There is a thyroid uk forum on health unlocked you can look at.
eliminate all sugar and things will happen.
Good suggestion. There will be a Ditch the Sugar challenge in the new year
It works. Most of the foods that cause weight gain are sugar concentrated. Thatโs why we like them
Hi lowT163,
Are you still on a weight loss journey yourself?
For sure. Up and down in weight and ,glucose numbers. My problems started with prostate cancer drugs driving my testosterone down to nothing and I wasnโt smart enough to respond by eating better. I was told. Anyway my A1C hit 10.8 and I learned I canโt eat like a kid anymore at 65. I started with trulicity and metformin and got the A1C down to 7 but as soon as I moved up above the lowest mg I was constantly sick to my stomach. Stopped that one and tried Ozempic. I got to 1 mg and same thing. Sick.
Doc put me on phentermine and slowly I started down in weight and glucose numbers looked good. Now Iโm 6.2 A1C. Had to stop the phentermine because of time limits being on it. So I gained a bunch back but less than I started with because I have lowered the amount of sugar I eat. Probably similar story as yours. Food is the problem. I like it.
Haha! Yep, me too, and this time of year is trickier than most.
I've avoided terrible excesses, however, I have eaten chocolates I really didn't want, and I think it's to do with "mouth feel".
It would be great to see you joining in the Ditch the Sugar challenge when it starts up, but in the meantime we have lots of groups to take part in (I think you're probably aware of many of them).
The link is here, good luck with everything:
Thanks. I'm working on carbs and sugar, but I'm struggling.
Please ensure than you check contra-indications and use clinician guidance prior to purchasing any weight loss medication.
As BridgeGirl has said, there will be a challenge here soon focussed on ditching the sugar. I'm looking forward to joining that one myself.
Over 50 and although I can't say I had an awful menopause I found everything that was festering like hiatus hernia and gall bladder both dealt with via surgery brought weight increase and that feeling very very sorry for myself . I read books , looked a miracle cures but the cure was very simple - 3 decent meals a day . No silly shopping for treats , diet shakes or water retention pills . Once in a routine I was rewarded with better health both mentally and physically . Don't battle then give up . Please do a 'for life' healthy eating pattern . I have seen plenty doing punishment , restrictive eating then creeping back to snacking etc . Those who cut out everything tend to be miserable and controlled . I doubt whether many have a great life cutting out everything they enjoy .
I to wish you happy new year and wish you all the best.
