It's amazing how much failure is part of every success story I've read about. It's also equally amazing how failure when trying to lose weight brings a sense of self-loathing and giving in. I'm not good enough, I'll always be like this, I'll never lose it etc becomes the cry of those that slip. Instead, we should be learning from our mistakes, just as those in business do. Reflect, learn, move on, carry on. If you slip, don't let it ruin the journey you're on and look instead at the positives...you know you've slipped, learn from it and don't make the same mistakes again.
How very true. Besides, those of us who have tried to lose weight many times and not previously succeeded are far more likely to succeed this time as we have learned a great deal about ourselves and the process, and we are more determined this time round to get it done once and for all. I tried quitting cigarettes 3 times before eventually succeeding on my fourth attempt. I’d finally had enough and couldn’t bear the idea of failing yet again. Thus motivated, I was much better prepared that last time: I asked a successful quitter for her best piece of advice which I religiously followed, I bought myself a stationary bike to calm urges and ended up cycling 3,500 miles ( !), and I bought and read and reread Alan Carr’s book on Quitting Smoking. My preparations and determination paid off and I’ve now been cigarette-free for 34 years.
Hi Sewknit, I'm glad you liked the blog. It's a great way to reflect and hopefully inspire others. Absolutely rooting for you on the new life and I hope it all goes to plan. But even if it doesn't, pick yourself up, reflect and move on. And visualising yourself at the end goal is defo a must, it helps to keep you driven. Thank you so much for your support. Keep going and I hope your journey is a success.
Just read a few entries of your blog. Inspirational. Thank-you for sharing! I'm mid-way through my journey, and needing fresh impetus to find my way forwards with enthusiasm. You have just inspired me to start callousing my mind!... right, I'm off to tackle a few things I really don't want to do!
Best wishes for your journey. I'm sure your planning and positivity will carry you through to reach your goals, and achieve things you didn't think possible!
Hi Cosmo501, it's great that the blog has helped you in some way, try watching some of David Goggins interviews for ways to help callous your mind or read his book 'Can't Hurt Me'. Good luck with it and I hope you'll keep reading. They may not all be inspirational, but I'm just a normal bloke on a very hard journey, just like the rest of you. I hope your journey is going well. Stay strong.
