Hi Cathhouse,

Please don't be disheartened, you can lose weight. I'm 70 and have arthritis in most joints as well as several other medical problems. It's taken me 9 weeks to lose 9 lbs, not fast going, but I will get there. If you can't do much, even getting out for a walk in the fresh air for half an hour, or whatever you can manage will help and may lift your spirits. I am not a medical expert, but would suggest that you may need to see your doctor if your tiredness continues or is bad. You could be anaemic, I have had that problem in the past. Just eating healthily will help your body and the encouragement on this forum will also help.

Your younger friend is right, keep going and good luck, onwards and downwards 🙂

How much added sugar do you have? It may be affecting your joints. Try to reduce it by checking your labels when you buy something.

What's the alternative to "keep going"? More weight gain and even less fitness? Even if you see no progress you've stopped the process which brought you here and at some point you will see some success. Even if you only lose 100 g per week that's 5 kg a year! That's got to be better than a 5 kg gain!

Keep trying! By the way I'm over 50 (55) and have lost 19 kg since January 2015 - so age is no hindrance. I don't have arthritis though (yet!).

Good luck and keep posting!

yes, it is harder to lose weight the older you get and take notice of your "younger" friend, keep going! Make sure you are eating enough if you are feeling tired :-)

I am 53 a health disaster zone and I have lost a stone in 3 weeks, all my efforts in the past have taken a month to lose one pound. Eat sugar free jellies, full of collagen. I have ordered some more in powder form to bump up my collagen protein intake to a level that I hope will help everything. I do think the jellies have helped this time, or it could be no simple carbs and the 500-700 cal lol

Keep the faith, you have to do this it's not a choice! ;)

I plant my feet apart and let those hips start wriggling, smile, get into a rhythm but don't move those feet, feel the slight pull on knee muscles, imagine those quads (above your knees, support knees) just keeping you steady while you twist and hold that middle . Tilt your hips slightly forward as you get going to get the butt muscles tensing, move on to concentrate on your sides...... and just enjoy feeling those muscles working ;)

I daft dance, on my own. With Donna Summers disco version blaring out at full volume, not really, well nearly, I feel loved so much, just me, myself (in the mirror so I stay motivated and control the flab) and Donna. A few others too, but it's Donna that gets the body going. ;)

This is starting to sound weird, i will stop now ;)

I am over 50 and I have lost four and a half stone since starting last September. It can be done!

Yep, I lost a stone on the 12 week plan and I'm over 50 too.

It is harder, because of joint stiffness, metabolism etc. I found Aquafit was my saviour when my joints hurt, but gave up that over the winter because the water was too cold and they kept cancelling classes. I now do 2 Zumba classes a week - great dance-based moves to get that body going - and one Pilates which builds core strength, very good for arthritis sufferers. Our Pilates teacher gives easier options for people who are less supple.

Look into avoiding nightshade veg for arthritis? I'm over 50 and have lost weight easily well a 1lb a week, no probs

They are also on my can't eat list because of food intolerance's, massive bloating and pain, followed by well........never eaten tabacco though ;)

Might have to disagree on that one Concerned, many of us have auto immune diseases and have had them our whole lives which is why our joints are worn out early. Some had very active lives, high level sport or they were members of the forces and that kind of life impacts on joints and long term arthritis. Some have had operations or accidents that cause early onset osteoarthritis. For some its simply genetic. Many reasons, very rarely a diet connection :) Of course being overweight for long periods of time makes it worse :( If insuline resistance is involved at any time then by 50 prediabetes would have been diagnosed and possibly type 2 diabetes making its mark.

If anyone is concerned about insulin resistant diabetes, type 2, there is some very interesting research, now accepted on Resistant Starch.

Here it is included and explained :)

Might just kill myself now then ;) I don't do sugar of any sort unless its in a nice healthy bit of pineapple or some berries. Of course all that Stevia, xylitol and aspartame has probably already pickled my liver, hey ho ;)

Onwards and downwards.
