Hi everyone, joined this group because I want to know has any body been referred to weight management services in NHS, just wondering what your experience was like and what sort of things it covers? Was it groups or appointments with dietitians?

As always we find participation to be the key to success, I hope to "see" you around
After hiatus hernia surgery I asked my GP to help me seriously manage my weight . I was introduced to the PARIS scheme . A reduced priced membership to a local gym with a specialist go to trainer who ran through the food I ate , suggested 3 decent meals per day and no snacking . He was available at certain times but I found group Zumba classes the best . I found the gym quite lonely and not very motivating . I found similar people who enjoyed simple steps to good vibrant music . I was really left to it after the first 6 months but able to stay on at the same gym with 2 more 6 month discounts but a little more expensive each time . In total I lost 18kg and maintain at a loss of 13 kg since 2019 as I found my social life went downhill and I was miserable with a severe regime . This PARIS scheme is little known but I feel GP's do take an interest in helping you if you convince them .
Hi Happyhippop, I'm in Wales so I don't know if it's a different set up? I think every Health Board does something different from what I've seen. My referral went in early December 2022 and I had a phone call in January to offer an initial consultation in March. This was a telephone session lasting about 45 mins asking lots of questions to assess the next steps. At the end I was told I'd be referred for a more in-depth questionnaire which could be quite an emotional experience. I was given no date and, four months later, I've heard nothing. I feel quite let down tbh but I suppose they're in demand and these delays are inevitable. 8 months and still no support or specific help seems like a long time when you feel you need help but I guess you'd have the same wait time for Orthopaedics or similar. I still need support so I'm sticking with the process. I guess only the desperate will stay with it!! All the best with your journey 😀
Welcome back, Snowieowl
Sorry to hear you've had such a long wait for guidance, I hope that returning to us here will be more helpful.
As a reminder, all of the information you need about the forum can be found in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/weight-l... and we hope you'll be joining all the Events, Challenges and Clubs that we run.
We've found active participation to be key to successful weight loss and, of course, it's a good way to get to know people, find inspiration and share support and encouragement.
Wishing you all the best
I have been told there will be at least 6 months wait for an initial appointment, there's a website to work through while waiting. I'm in Wales too. I don't know if I can share links but if you search 'healthy weight healthy you' it comes up. I think it shows motivation if you stick through the waits!
