I used to be very physically active. I enjoyed going to the gym and did a range of activities.
About 6 years ago I started to suffer from arthritis. It starting in my feet it gradually moved into my hips. Medication has had limited effectiveness. I tired physiotherapy but frankly the doctors were pretty useless. Its gotten to the point where the amount of exercise I can perform is virtually zero. Being forced to stop doing everything I loved made me very depressed and I am so a comfort eater so Im sure you can see where this is going.
I have tried dieting but without the ability to exercise losing weight is very slow going and because I am a comfort eater whenever I get stressed or depressed the diets don’t last. Frankly food is one of the few pleasures I have left.
Can anyone recommend any diet supplements to aid in weight loss when I am dieting?

Hello eeyv and welcome to the weight loss support forum.
I’m sorry you’ve been suffering with arthritis. It’s never easy to adapt to something like that when you’ve been previously active.
The forum has lots of different groups and there are members who have managed to reduce weight without being able to do lots of exercise.
You’ll find the link to what’s going on at the end of this reply, and I’d encourage you to join in, especially with something like the Daily Diary, which might give you a different approach to your eating plans. The members here are very supportive and will share their experiences with you.
Have a look around and if you have any questions just ask.
Arthritis is an inflammatory disese and therefore you should try to lower your systemic inflammation which will also help with weight control.
Sytemic inflammation is mostly caused by eating processed foods like refined sugars and starches like wheat flour. Inflammation can be caused by ingesting refined seed oils so you can avoid it by sticking to ccold pressed oils like olive oil, coconut oil avocado oil etc, or using aminal fats.
No, diet supplements obviously won't work and that's why I'm suggesting an alternative. I suspect that the comfort foods are processed carbohydrates which are doing more harm. Excersising makes only a slight difference to weight gain the real solution is to take the harmful foods out of the diet.
Exercise stops me concentrating too much on food .Luckily I don’t binge eat but friends have said that they come home after a class and don’t want to eat the rubbish they used to . So not just the food for us but the psychological aspects of exercise. I am 63 and I need the exercise.
It is relevant as the benefits of exercise are underrated . My mum was in a wheelchair from the age of 72 and took medication for arthritis . We paid for physio sessions where the most helpful aspect was the exercises done from her chair which enhanced mobility in her arms and helped the pain in her feet . I agree with your opinion that tweaking diet will help so many get a lot of benefit from light movement . When some start to cut out / modify their eating it can lead to mood swings and giving up as a few pounds here and there especially when you are suffering from pain hardly motivates you . As you mention supplements aren't the answer but the relevance here is the addition of movement .If you feel better psychologically then the mindset to look at your weight improves . We did see positives . Mum lived in her own home until she was 94.
Via the GP referral we have the PARIS scheme nearby which is guided exercise via a specialist coach at the gym . An initial 6 month sign up . It is at greatly reduced cost but this programme - little known helped me with an 18kg weigh loss after surgery for hiatus hernia in Jan 2018 . My knees hurt . I could hardly bend . The weight I carried was making me ache and shuffle .
Today my aches are minimal and I breathe better . Confidence grown too . I would ask . I only found out via a non medic friend about this .
My sister did the Paris scheme and lost 7 stone which she has kept off. She also went to a big award ceremony to celebrate this. She has kept all the weight off two years later. But she goes every day to a Gym and during Covid walked 5 miles a day outside. Thing is she could move and has no other body limiting problems and can keep active to avoid food. My problem is I can't avoid food or be that active just like eevy.
Each to their own but I would never advocate any pills or injections. If this was the miracle cure that sustained weight loss then all would be on it . Good food does more than help with weight loss . My hair was brittle and my skin was dull . I haven’t had any major work at the dentist for over 5 years . Get me any medication that does this ???
not sure anyone knows about long term issues. BUT. It helps with the desire to eat which is the problem with people dying of heart disease and diabetes.. it’s a fact. Beats the bell out of surgery. If the people start dying from Ozempic I apologize.
slap me in the face. I was getting nauseous on the 1mg level of Ozempic. I had no appetite but it was because of the upset stomach. So I quit for a couple weeks. Big mistake I started back at the 1 mg level when I felt better. I’ve been sick to my stomach for the last 3 days. I would suggest you can’t do that. Restart lower level. Probably call your doctor.
There is a new diabetes drug called semaglutide. It is available on the NHS onlt for Diabetics at the moment. It is also used to suppress appetite for people with a BMI over 35 pre diabatic and other restrictions apply. You can get it on a private prescription from Boots or a local chemist. Its a weekly injection you do yourself. Thing is it costs around £250 for a month supply but it might give you a kick start to change your eating habits. Check it out on Google one name for it is Wegovy. Doubt if the NHS will give it you unless you meet very rigid criteria. I too am arthritic and cant move much. I'm mostly housebound and on steroids. I put over 3 stone on in the last 6 years and have become idle due to my arthritis and damage done to my muscles by long term steroids use. The person I know who has this drug due to diabetes hasn't noticed any change in her appetite and it doesnt work for everyone as we are all different. I am trying the intermittent fasting with an eating window of 10-6pm. Very low carbs as steroids convert them to sugar. Fish or chicken with vegetables occasional sweet potato. My problem is I comfort eat too even though I cant get my own food? Bread and butter or cheese is my nemesis. I hope by joining this forum I can move forward. I only need 900 calories a day to loose weight I always max out at around 1400 and just stay the same. 5ft and 13.8. The NHS weight loss app is great for recording your food and activity daily.
You seem to have found a plan that can work if you stick to it. You're right about carbs converting to sugar but that goes for all of us, not just those taking steroids. Have you tried increasing natural fats while lowering carbs? That may keep you feeling fuller, even if you exceed your 900 cal limit (which must be really difficult to maintain). A small amount of cheese, butter on your veg, salad dressings made with olive oil, a few nuts - just a few ideas.

HI I BridgeGirl I really want to make the most of this forum and will look at the Daily Diary. I just can't stick to a plan even though I know its in my best interest? Cheese is also a thing I overdo but I could up my healthy fats and make some simple changes. Thanks for the welcome.
I too am pretty inactive due to having cfs/me but, I managed to loose weight following Slimming World AND swapping my carbs eg: sweet potatoes instead of white potatoes, whole grain rice instead of white rice, cut out refined sugars and was already wheat and dairy free. It is doable.
I was able to be referred in to SW by my GP and had 12 weeks for free. I think you need a health concern and mine was being overweight and pre diabetic. Some NHS trusts offer similar but with Weight Watchers. If your sister gets anxious in groups, you could ask if you could go with them until they felt more able. One of my daughters who is obese is too anxious to attend group but, we follow the plan and she's steadily losing weight and is mostly inactive too.
I have ordered some Gold cost Keta tablets i hope they work i have had XXLS Weight loss tablets. Lost Half a stone within a week. as it did 3 times extra. But i was going swimming as well everyday and did walking
I don't know about any of these supplements. If you want to try the keto or low carb approach, then you just need the right food choices, no supplements.
Forum members follow a range of different plans. If you join in our various activities e.g. Daily Diary and weigh in, you'll find plenty of people to chat to about their choices. Just follow this link healthunlocked.com/weight-l... and you'll find everything you need
