Needing some encouragement please

Hi guys,

I have had such a long week at work and feel completely shattered. It’s my first Friday on my healthy eating plan and I really feel like having a blow out! It’s making me feel so low and sorry for myself.

Weekends are going to be tricky for me as I always reach for food for comfort and if my mood is low.

Please can I have some tips to keep going with my plan

Thanks in advance 😘

Keep busy Reetareeta,

Sometimes a blow out is good ,would you feel worse afterwards?

We all have times when we have low moods ,stress etc.its how we get through these times that helps.

I try and keep busy ,play my guitar or listen to some music.

Find what works for you .

Have a great weekend

Gary

Have a blowout - but plan you blow out on healthier options!!

Probably no use for tonight unless you have a well stocked fridge / cupboards but if a takeaway on a weekend is your fancy there are great, low cal, healthy options for fakeaways!

If a kebab is your thing, plenty of great healthy kebab ideas about!

Pizza, southern fried chicken, burgers or a curry?? - some fantastic recipes for all of them are available. Just plan them into your weekends!

Most can be done within the 30- 45 minute delivery time and you won't feel guilty after whilst also feeling you've had that weekend treat!!

Excellent advice 😊. I agree, I LOVE food and always plan special meals for the weekend. Losing weight is about balance, and making permanent changes, it’s no use completely giving up all your favourite things, they need to be fitted in to an overall healthier eating plan.

You can do this Reetareeta 😊

Hi Reetareeta , I don't know what your calorie range is or what you're eating but there's so much fabulous food you can choose from. My tip is to be adventurous, try new ingredients and new recipes, make good use of your calories so you're not hungry.

And maybe try and reshape your weekends if that's the time when you feel low and in need of comfort. Find ways of being kind to yourself that don't involve food.

Have you checked your calorie range at the NHS BMI calculator and, if so, what is it? nhs.uk/Tools/Pages/Healthyw...

Thank you for that! I just checked and I have a BMI of 27.9 and my calorie intake should be 1604-2063.

I have had a baked potato tonight so don’t feel hungry just really low which is a trigger for a binge

So you could be having some really great meals for the upper end of that range. I see that you've dropped in to the Daily Diary a few days. You could make that a regular to help with your planning and to pinch ideas. You'll also find plenty of recipes under Topics.

Re the baked potato: unfortunately, that's something that's broken down into sugar very quickly in your body, and is likely to leave you feeling hungry relatively quickly. Your feeling low may well be related to what you eat. If you need to eat again this evening, find something with protein. Do you have any eggs or cheese or both? That would leave you fuller and more satisfied for longer.

That is really helpful. Thank you. It rings very true with me. I think my food thing stems from childhood when there were days we didn’t have anything to eat or very little. I love this site and am really glad I found you guys 😘

I’m so pleased you found it helpful 😊. We all have our own, personal food demons to battle, but together we will conquer 👍👏🤝

Think about what would distract you?

Movie? Reading? Phoning someone?

I was told it takes about 20mins for a craving to disappear so if you can get busy for 20mins maybe itll pass!

Maybe go for a relaxing bath?

Wishing you well & you can do it ! xx

Hi reetareeta, sorry to hear you are struggling. The cravings are so hard to overcome. I am sure though that now you have made up your mind to lose weight, if you give in to the cravings you will feel guilty and even lower. I try not to have the junk food and sweets etc in the house. As I live in a village if we don’t have them we have to travel to buy them. I also want to binge more at night than in the morning. Therefore I tend to bank some calories during the day so I can have a treat ( usually a weight watchers low calorie biscuit ) in the evening when I am most likely to give in. I think we tend to binge on the junk because it is a comfort so I also try asking myself if I am hungry or if I am seeking comfort from the food. This works really well as usually I am seeking comfort and not really hungry ie I want the junk but I don’t need it.

Hope this helps and I hope you’ve managed a long lie in this morning and have a restful day

X

Yesterday I really wanted a pizza. So I shared a homemade pizza with my partner. Yes ok, a salad would have been waaaay healthier...but I wanted pizza and salad wasn't going to hit the spot 😜

It was healthier than a dominoes anyway
