Stuck at 13 stone:
Hi Yassa sorry you're feeling stuck. Lots of questions spring to mind: how long has your weight stayed the same? What app are you using to record your stats? Are you actually recording and weighing EVERYTHING you eat and drink (not being rude, it's just that "guestimates" don't work if you're counting calories). How are you calculating your exercise stats? For example, I use Myfitnesspal but I noticed how inadequate it was for calculating how many calories I'd burned from walking, because it relies on the user to decide the speed of the walk, and that's probably subjective. I found it helpful to sync my Fitbit to Myfitnesspal for better accuracy. Where did you get your 1200 total calorie allowance from? Based on your BMI, it might be too lowSorry for all the questions, its just difficult to help without asking them 😏 Hope you get the scales moving again asap 💐
Nutra check app for calorie counter and smart watch for exercise.
Was 12 st 6 in 2020 and now 13. Was 11 stone 6 years ago. Creeping weight gain. Add a bit of weight at Xmas and holidays but normally same weight despite ww and sw and now calorie counting. And reading some comments here: I do not have a clue what to eat now. Ps I’m a veggie-vegan.
I'm veggie/vegan too. For myself I lose weight when I cook from scratch (so minimal processed foods), no booze and i do intermittent fasting. My best advice is to try something different than you have been doing, shake things up a little. You'll figure out what works for you longtime 😊
Hello and welcome, Yassa
Without knowing more, it's hard to make specific suggestions. My immediate comments would be that a) you're not eating enough and b) it's notoriously difficult to get an accurate measure of energy used in exercise, so I wouldn't rely on that.
If you join the Daily Diary, you'll see what other members are eating and what exercise they are planning. And if you join a weekly weigh in, you'll have great team support. You'll find them, and all our other activities, in Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/weight-l... Have a look through all those posts so you know what's on offer.
Active participation really pays off so I hope we'll see you joining in around the forum
Where daily diary? 😊
As I said, it's in Pinned Posts. If you click on the blue link I have given you, you will see a list of posts. Welcome Newbies is the first. The Daily Diary is fourth on the list. Click on the title and you'll see the opening post and replies.
If you're using the app, you'd be best to get rid of it as it doesn't give full access to the forum. Always use the website and spend some time finding your way around: it will soon fall into place
Lost 5 stone about 10 years ago by starving ie 400 cals a day. Stopped this as making me ill. Weight creeping up slowly from 11 to 13 stone. Tried all types of diets but I’m not getting it. Advice from sites like these just confuse me even more. In a veggie- vegan and 49. Working in a clinic long hours and have kids and no spare time...Using nutria check app to count calories and my smart watch for exercise. Don’t feel hungry on 1.200 and really enjoying eating this way but something wrong as putting weight on slowly so obviously not doing this right either.!
Yes, once you know something isn't working, you know you need to change, and 1200 calories isn't working for you. Have a look at the Daily Diary and you'll see several vegans and vegetarians there.
Maybe this would be of interest dietdoctor.com/low-carb/vegan
It could be your body isn’t getting enough calories and has adapted to this and slowed down as needs more energy.
That's because loosing weight is not as simple as calorie counting because the body doesn't metabolise all calories the same. The things that cause your body to deposit fat are insulin and trigycerides. To get those two down you need to reduce your carbohydrate intake, even if it means that you increase your fat intake to keep your calorie intake the same.
Hi Yassa.
Just some thoughts.... maybe your metabolism is a bit stuck. I would check your 1200 to see if it's a bit low....
If your veggie/vegan it might be a bit harder to cut back on carbs. This is the obvious solution which I'm sure people will suggest and tbh it works really well for me and I see it as more of a lifestyle choice than a diet .... but I have also had success breaking a plateau using calorie cycling which I do constantly now without thinking about it - (I don't count calories anymore I just eat less in the week and more at the weekend).
You can google it but basically it's where you have some days where you eat more and some days where you eat less .... but the same overall amount of food (or calories if you choose to count them) per week or month. People say it can sometimes help to speed up a sluggish metabolism if you eat your BMR + exercise calories in total for at least a day every week....
