Hi all, thought I'd share what I'm going through right now. I have been signed off work for 5 weeks while changing my epilepsy medication. I am resting as much as possible as my body adjusts to the new meds, and I'm struggling to exercise, or even do housework, as I'm way too wobbly - short supervised walks are my limit..!!! So, determined not to pile on the pounds I've been meticulously counting the calories with MFP, and it's working. I am on 1300 per day (as per the app) and I've gone from 72.8kg to 68.9kg in that time, eating my full quota of calories every day, and eating healthily - apart from the occasional small pizza.! It can be done with determination, and I am so pleased with myself. I hope I can keep it up when I return to work! 😊

Hello Pinklady11 Very well done on losing almost 4 kg in the last 5 weeks, that is an excellent result ☺ I hope you soon get your medication sorted and your epilepsy under control ☺

Anyway, welcome to the weight loss forum ☺ The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. As I mentioned before, use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for ☺

Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page ☺

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you may have a 'Newbie' badge. If you have any questions or would like a Newbie badge please just ask ☺

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too ☺

Best wishes

Anna

Hi Anna61, thank you for welcoming me to the forum and for the pointers, these will be really helpful especially when/if I lose self control..! My clothes are a good indicator of how well I'm doing and I have managed to squeeze into my favourite jeans which I couldn't do a few weeks ago. Thank you again for the encouragement 😊😊

Good luck with changing your epilepsy medication and hope it works well for you. I fully understand with how all this can work as I have epilepsy too. Mine is currently uncontrolled, even though I do take medications. None of it seems to work and I have tried nearly every med I can.

Hope you continue to lose weight the same whilst all this happens for you but don't think the difference will be too much different. I am losing weight and not doing much exercise myself as I know I won't continue it afterwards and want all this to be a life change for me and not a diet part so am only doing things I know I will continue with. Take care.

Hi HubbysMissMouse, I'm sorry to hear your epilepsy is currently uncontrolled... I am hoping that this change in my meds will improve how mine is contained. You say you don't do much exercise as you know you won't continue it afterwards, is there anything you can do and gradually build up? It doesn't need to be anything strenuous, but I know I feel better for doing something. When I'm not confident enough to leave the house I hula hoop in the lounge. It's a safe place, it's fun, it's good for the waist line and it's gentle exercise. Obviously stand away from the TV! I have a foam padded weighted hoop. Keep up the diet too, I've started to see some changes and I feel more positive about myself. I will continue going forward. If anything this period of inactivity is proving I can do this. Good luck to you 😊

Thanks, I did try at the beginning of this and was trying to continue it for a couple of months as long as I could but I was also getting more and more annoyed with myself for having to go and do it and was only doing it by forcing myself every day and never felt happier or pleased with myself anytime. I am just too lazy at the end of the day and couldn't wait to stop. Everyone else always seem happier with themselves but I hated it. This is why I felt it is not worth me continuing it because this part feels like a diet, but I want it to be something I will do for life.
