Restoration Project

Hello I need help with a restoration project.

I’m 49 next Thursday and would like to make my 50th year a positive one both physically and mentally. I am struggling with both at the moment. I have gained over 2 stone in the last 2 years.

Approximately 5 years ago everything, particularly my joints and muscles began to ache, sometimes so bad I have to take pain killers to relax enough to sleep. Which brings me to sleeping on average I manage about 5 hours disturbed sleep. I also feel for somebody who was always fit and strong, I have become weak and tired and have stopped doing lots of the things that I use to enjoy because of this. All of the above obviously have affected me mentally and the mood swings I find hard...with PMT I could talk to myself and rationalise this is just going to be here for a few days and could cope but now when I’m down, I just don’t know when I’m going to feel up again.

About 6 months ago after only having 2 periods in a year it all added up...it’s the menopause (I know I’m not suffering as bad as others as, touch wood, I have only experienced a few hot flushes and most of those were a few years ago)

I have attempted to talk to my GP but to be honest with everything else that’s going on, I didn’t get much help. So I took it upon myself to try the herbal supplement, Estroplus and have felt some positive benefits.

Anyway I need to kick this menopause into check and take control, so I’m asking if there is anyone out who has been on this or indeed going through this journey that could offer some advice, tips etc get through it, strengthen physically and mentally and strip away the menopause fat suit and start a restoration project on myself, structurally, in the engine and the bodywork......???

Thank you

Karen

Hi itsmeee and welcome back to this amazing forum. As a few things have changed since you were last here I suggest you spend some time clicking about to find your way around. It's easier if you have a lap-top as there are several threads. If you’re using another device I strongly suggest that you use the web page as opposed to the app at least until you know your way around.Have a good read of the pinned post “Welcome Newbies” and follow every thread.

Here’s the link to the pinned posts, healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Here’s the link for the “Tour” of the forum. If you haven’t already taken it.

I strongly suggest you read and contribute to the Daily Diary and participate in a Weekly Weigh in.

As we get older and move less we need to concentrate more on what we eat as opposed to how much we eat.

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

You will find there's loads of tips about better eating, from other members. Sharing your daily menu not only helps you stay committed, it can help other members too.

Good luck I hope to "see " you around.

Hi Itsmeee,Join the menopause club, I have been dealing with it for about 2 years, luckily mostly OK, I had sponge brain fir a long time which was horrible felt as if I was having a melt down some days, also I get very hot mostly in the legs. I wouldn't have hrt but I have tried Sage tablets advised by GP for helping with flushes not sure if they helped but I started taking a Multi vitamin with sage and minerals for women over 50 and I don't seem to be as bad and the brain fog has gone. I also use Magnesium oil on my legs it relaxes the muscles and helps sleep (use at night). It does work for me. Exercise is good too I'm trying yoga. Hope this can help you there us a website called Menopause matters it's full of advice try looking it up..

Kind regards x

Just wanted to say that I’m in the same boat as you! It’s been dawning on me these past few months. I’m 49 this summer, and I’d like to get to the age of 50 feeling like I’ve put this chapter behind me. I’ve got the same kind of symptoms as you, and similar weight gain. And brain fog. I don’t really have any advice or tips, but it was lovely to read your post and feel it’s not just me. X
