I have been very quiet on here since I joined. I was struggling with being told I had fatty liver, it really scared me to be honest. My first grandchild was born 3 months ago and all sorts of thoughts were going on in my head. Would my liver get worse, would I see her grow up?
I have blood tests every month & just before Christmas my liver levels were steadily rising but I persevered and lost 1 .5 stone, I also exercised regularly which I wasn’t doing before.
Yesterday my Dr told me that not only have my liver levels gone down, they are now in the normal range 😀
I am so happy, I feel so much better in myself and my mental health has also improved.
I know I will always have to be careful as although my levels have gone down they could also rise again if I go back to my old eating habits, but I am determined to continue my weight loss & my goal is to lose another stone.
I just wanted at share my story in the hope that it might help someone in a similar situation

That’s fantastic Tiatilly, my husband has the same issue and it is really worrying, doctors presumed it is due to too much alcohol but he doesn’t drink that much and his mum died of liver cirrhosis even though she didn’t drink at all! We have both been losing weight since November and he had lost over 2 stone so desperately hoping his next blood test in March shows some results, his last one was about a couple of weeks after starting diet and showed high levels. He’s also trying to get more exercise and we do a weekly long walk usually about 12k on a Sunday morning so 🤞
It takes a while for the weight loss to show in the liver levels apparently so hopefully your husbands next blood tests will show an improvement. Also exercise is the best thing you can do to bring the levels down. I walk most days, about 3 miles. Fingers crossed for you both
Thank you I’ll let you know results, I walk all day at work so get plenty of exercise, husband however works in an office so gets little chance for walking and it’s so easy to just come home lock the door and sit on the sofa when it’s cold and dark outside. You have really helped to reassure me that good results can happen. We have been doing the Micheal Mosley 800 plan designed to help fatty liver, eating so much healthier than ever before, more of a lifestyle change than a diet definitely x
NAFLD is quit a different thing from alcoholic cirrhosis and it's hard on people if doctors and others link it to alcohol. It's one of a group of chronic metabolic disorders and getting the diet right will start to make a difference. Apologies if I'm stating what you already know but other members might pick up on this.

Thank you, yes they are two different things. I used to drink alcohol ( not to excess but regular glass of wine) and was obese so the Drs were unsure if it was a combination of the two which caused my fatty liver. I no longer drink alcohol at all and as mentioned I have also lost weight. NAFLD is not linked to alcohol at all. Unfortunately when you tell people that you have a liver problem they automatically associate it with drinking too much alcohol, most people do not realise that the food they are eating could also cause liver issues.
