I have been following nhs 12 week plan for 2 weeks, I have given up bread, butter & potatoes, due to circumstances & lockdown I lost my motivation to go out jogging & gym was closed. I know it is early days but I have not lost an ounce at 5ft 1in & 11 stone I need to get the weight off for my health.

It will go, sounds like your doing a good job. The more I look at the scales the more difficult it seems so I only get on them once!!!!! Take my hat off to you for giving up Bread and potatoes, that’s a really good achievement., and something I need to do.My mate keeps telling me” slowly slowly wins the race.

Keep focused

I swore that the laws of physics don't apply to my body and no diet would shift this for me - it was a matter of sticking with it and waiting it out. Definitely wait it out. I was convinced it wasn't working but all it took was consistency and patience - I've lost 15 kg since June. Hope to see you soon on the daily diary and at a weekly weigh in. I weigh in on Wednesdays - join me?

I feel your pain! I’m 5ft and 11 stone and have lost and gained the same 2kg for a year. Mostly tried intermittent fasting and comfortable with that until life gets crazy hard and sometimes I stop. I was more effective losing weight when I exercise but struggled to find the mojo or the time (working full time at home, kids and hubby home). Trying to squeeze in some weights/hiit/walk now to see if it kick starts weight loss again! Good luck:):)

Hello Maxi3 and welcome back to this amazing forum.

I can only imagine how difficult working from home is. Especially with the whole family home too. You mention that you seem to lose and gain the same 2 Kg. May be it's time to try something else. If you have a spare 5 mins I suggest that you read the Daily Diary as there are a lot of different ideas there. Sharing your daily menu not only helps you stay committed, it can help other members too.

You'll find it in the pinned posts.

I suggest you spend some time clicking about to find your way around. As some things may have changed since you were last here. It's easier if you have a lap-top as there are several threads. If you’re using another device I strongly suggest that you use the web page as opposed to the app at least until you know your way around.

Have a good read of the pinned post “Welcome Newbies” and follow every thread.

Here’s the link for the “Tour” of the forum. If you haven’t already taken it.

Here's another link which may help you see things differently.

If you need anymore help/ support ,just shout. There's always someone here.

Good luck I hope to "see " you around.

Hi I'm on week 5 of the plan. I am losing about a pound a week and I have not given potato/bread up. As I'm vegan I just eat less processed/ convenience food and I'm not drinking which helps. Its a slow and steady loss, eat less rubbish, rather than a change of diet for me, I think. I am filling in the diary just to keep me on track of foods eaten. Don't lose faith!

It's not a good idea to keep looking at the scales for your weight. As a lot of things can contribute to that number.

I made that mistake. I was 22 stone. Then instead of looking at diets and exercises to target fat cells. I instead took a look at the scientific process of weight loss.

To start the fat burning process, your body needs to take in less food than it uses.(eating less calories than your body uses) then, this process will start. And your body will look to the fat cells stored in your body. That's what fat is, energy.

Your body uses around 2000 calories for men slightly less for women a day. (lookup the figures for exact results.) So starting with a small calorie deficit, work your way down.

Sometimes this and this alone won't work due to hormone problems like, in my case hypothyroidism.

No, I had to do something else on top of that. The only thing I found that worked is fasting, yes fasting. But I didn't want to fast without knowing what happens.

I found an app called Fastic, which was brilliant for me. It tells you which stage of fasting you're in depending on how long you've been fasting for.

It's easier than you think to fast, you can do it of a night time. They give you a fastic time and a resting time depending on your level. It's important not to fast longer than it says.

The fat burning process kicks in around the 11 hour mark. So instead of using food to run your body, because you're fasting it has to look elsewhere, to your fat sources.

This helped me lose so much weight. But if you do it too much, or too long your body will think you're starving and hold on to fat.

This app gives you an option to start at beginner levels. It's brilliant.

I hope you try this method and it works for you. Give me a message if you need help or a catch up. Good luck.

Hi feel I feel your pain, I’m 59, 5foot 3 and since lockdown I have lost 16lb. It’s going at a rate of half I week I was 207 I’m now 190lb. I never weigh every day. I weigh once a week. I agree with George below except if you are a woman you need fewer calories. I do not look every day, that’s a nightmare. You weigh before you shower, after the loo and before you eat! And you measure too.

I never ate crap so I can’t cut out eating fast food because that would have zero results.

I can’t go to the gym any more but I work out to a YouTube Video twice a week. I walk twice a week. I joined Wednesday Wobblers and I’ve had weeks and weeks where I stayed the same and felt like giving up. I need to lose weight for my health and I’ve been in stomach discomfort and my group have supported me.

I have not put any weight on at all in 28 weeks.

This is not to make you cross or jealous but to encourage you. I eat bread and potatoes and full fat milk. I eat only fresh food cooked by us, I make all my own bread (in a machine) ; cakes and pastry. I’m learning how much, in real life I CAN eat and what my body needs. I don’t touch diet products as I don’t think they are healthy. I eat meat and love it.

So look at you, your body, your exercise, your intake, your lifestyle and your exercise and come and join a support group if you want. We are just like you (only I’m shorter and heavier 😂). Maybe it’s not bread you need to cut out maybe it’s cheese for example or wine.

The nice thing about our groups, no money paid out no, humiliation. Just kindness and motivation.

Hi there good to read your post, I don't drink wine or eat cheese, don't like milk, I have a couple of cans of lager on a saturday (treat) but, reading this book my niece advised by Dr Rangan Chatterjee is very interesting, like you I don't believe in silly diets & wouldn't waste my money on diet products. I make my own sauces for chilli, spag bol, curry, so I know all the calories involved

Come and join the Saturday superstars weigh in. We are a friendly and supportive group. A lot of people are struggling at the moment. The support of a group really helps. It is open now hope to see you there.

Some time ago I was calorie counting too . For 3 full weeks I ate between 500 and 800 calories a day and didn’t lose a pound ! Then I was told on here that it’s not the number of calories , but the type of calories you eat that has the best results . It’s the conflicting advice you get on here that sometimes confuses me , otherwise it’s a good site .

This lockdown has so much to answer for, I gained 2 stone over december and january - its so hard to stay motivated when there is so little to distract you and keep you on track - its even harder when you follow a plan as best you can and still dont see the results you had hoped for - all I can suggest is give it another week or two, give it everything you have, no slip ups or cheat meals and if you still arent seeing any results, maybe its time to re-assess the plan and see if something else might be more suitable for you - good luck! xxx

Hi,I think that you are doing a great job! I noticed that drinking half of your body weight in water helps tremendously. So for example : 100 lbs person drinks 50 oz a day in water.

😃 I hope that this helps and GL!
