NHS weight loss plan with ulcerative colitis

Hi there, I've just joined & starting the NHS 12 week weight loss plan. Just been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis & told I need to keep my dietary fibre content low. Imagine my shock on seeing the first week's weight loss sheet which says fill up on fibre. Anyone else in this situation, what can I 'fill up' on if not fibre?? Any suggestions gratefully received, thanks

Hello there, so sorry to read your plight concerning your IBD, would it be possible to speak to your consultant to find out what you should be eating, or even to his secretary, perhaps they have diet sheets they could send you. Sometimes you have to ask if Information is not forthcoming. Failing that u could speak to your doctor for advice. If you draw a blank I guess you would either have to do further research or do a food diary for yourself and see what foods affect you the most and eliminate them from your diet. It must be very difficult finding healthy foods you can eat. I hope there are some fellow sufferers who may be able to help you further. So sorry I can’t give you any pacific advice, I just wanted to wish you luck and a better and healthier lifestyle.

Hello and welcome to the forum,

I am so sorry to hear that you are suffering, it all sounds very uncomfortable. Don't you just love it when you are sent away with not enough advice!

I am not sure if this site will have the answers, but I think it is worth having a look at,

I’m not sure just how similar they are but if ulcerative colitis is anything like the microscopic colitis I suffer from I can certainly sympathise. If you google your condition you find suggestions for foods you can eat . I think it’ll be trial and error till you find what works without deviating too much from the 12 week plan. Sorry I can’t be more help. Good luck 😊
