First things first can someone please react to this post? You can r.e.a.l.l.y motivate someone on a weight-loss journey!!! ๐
I've lost 30 pounds in 6 months before (2 years ago)
I think it's a healthy speed, but now I've gained most of it back
Now I want to lose, at least 20 lbs
My birthday in Feb is coming up so I want to set a little goal for myself
Low threshold, 10 lbs
High threshold, none
Today I was sleeping on the bus and my friend took a photo of me. I. Was. So. Fat. ๐ญ
Sad truth.
I've been planning this re-weight loss since last Nov, but I was just not disciplined enough. There is free food in many places like we can grab free bread during lunch, but that is packed. With. Calories. If I really want to take it, do not eat it, give it to my hungry friends
And sometimes I snack on almonds in an excessive amount.
Sometimes I snack on yogurt at late night.
Sometimes I eat a bagel at 8 pm. Unacceptable!
Ugh Guilt! Gotta stop snacking! ๐ซ

Hi Lokix and welcome to this friendly community. One of our lovely admin people will be here soon to introduce you to the forum.
Setting goals for yourself with your birthday around the corner, shows determination ๐
Healthy , sustainable weight loss takes time. 1 pound a week is a realistic goal.
Youโve lost weight before. What is your strategy this time? What worked well the first time around? And what made it unsustainable?
My strategy is intermittent fasting (16 hours a day) in combination with a focus on reducing my intake of carbs and making sure I get enough protein and healthy fats. I also aim for 7500 steps each day.
I eat lunch at 12 noon and my eating window closes at 8 pm. Outside of that window I donโt have any calories at all, not even milk in my coffee.
My experience is that all weight loss programmes work for as long as you can keep the steam up, and this combination of strategies works well for me.
It sounds as if what you need is some planning. Chancing your meals to luck may leave you over/under eating, failing to get the necessary nutrients and not properly satisfying your hunger. This is turn may be what's leading to late night snacking, although habit may also be to blame.
If you take a look at our Daily Diary, you'll see that members plan their menus at least a day in advance, so that the required ingredients for their meals are available and time is allocated for the preparation.
You've said you lost 30lbs in 6 months a couple of years ago, a loss of just over 1lb per week. That was great and shows you had commitment, but don't look back and don't give yourself goals that, if not met, could make you feel a failure. Concentrate on the journey, rather than the goal. Learning good habits that lead to good health is far more important than a number on the scales.

Hello Lokixweightloss and welcome. I am on my second week and find this forum helpful and supportive. I've been the same weight for 10 years but with meds I'm taking its hard work. So I'm taking small steps. Small wins. And hopefully a steady loss. This week I've swapped my lunchtime packet soup for a Bovril drink. And swapped ice cream for natural yoghurt with fruit. Good luck!
Good luck! I've been trying half heartedly since told I was pre diabetic in October. I was told its lifestyle by my doctor. So I learned about public health collaboration UK, Dr Unwin and his LCHF diet and since then lost over a stone. I'd dieted most of my life. Losing and gaining, while each year getting heavier and more insulin resistant. This is the first time in twenty years, I've lost weight, enjoyed Christmas bit too much, but went back to my normal lifestyle once it was over. The reason, I'm eating good food and I'm not hungry. I'm so happy to be on the wagon re sugars and processed food. Do it today, you won't look back.
Well done for doing the necessary research and finding the answer to weight loss and for sharing it with others. We have a Ditch the Sugar Challenge running at the moment, that may help you get back on track following the Christmas excesses. You'll find the link for it and our other Clubs and events here healthunlocked.com/weight-l...
Sounds like the Dr David Unwin LCHF approach that Sweetpea57 mentions might suit you as snacking on almonds would not be considered a bad thing! Itโs the sugar and other carbs that you would be counting and not calories. It worked for me too. Good luck!
I watched a video recently, it was Dr Boz on how to get rid of belly fat and it showed a picture of visceral belly fat and I was really shocked to see intestines totally clad in fat. It's really absurd that I thought the fat in my belly sat in front of my intestines and not covered the full 36 ft of them back front and sides!! No wonder our immune systems are impaired when we are overweight....
I watched a film recently "that sugar film", I hired it on amazon prime. The director used his own body as a guinea pig to eat foods over a set period of time, identified as 'healthy' by the food industry and they were the type of foods I've been eating to try loose weight over last twenty years and I'm stones heavier !! He was healthy, eating healthy diet and exercised regularly. He had to eat the same daily calories as his current diet, and carry on exercising as he was doing. The results of 'healthy' food on his body were frightening....its no mystery to me now why I got fat.
It's one on my reading list! He's really good ๐ Another book I can recommend was the 'Glucose Revolution'. The author was a researcher in genetics, (I won't spoil the plot and tell you her back story) who has researched glucose to the nth degree for her own sake. It's very informative and helped a lot with my understanding of things going on in our body when we eat, and ways to slow down glucose absorption, thus releasing our sugars slower. Important to slow release of insulin, and prevent spikes.
Hi! The books you are talking about seem super interesting, did you major in nutrition ? And also are you sleeping late and waking early bc of self discipline purposes ;-;
Welcome to the community here and well done for getting back to working on your goal.
It sounds like you are quite hard on yourself and I wonder if that hinders you in succeeding? Guilt, shame, doubt are all feelings we experience that can lead to emotional eating and sucking us up into this never ending cycle, only hoping that one day our motivation will be enough to break it.
There are some great suggestions here in the comments and I think having a plan will help you a LOT! Knowing what you want to achieve each day can help set intention and give you focus, not leaving things to chance.
If snacking is something you recognise as contributing to your weight gain, instead of completely stopping why not swap the foods you normally snack on for lower calorie alternatives? That way you can still snack, but with less negative impact on your goal to lose weight?
Thanks for the advice!! Actually what happens is, when I want to snack on nuts I go find some strawberries, but they just don't feel as good as nuts/cheese
I just thought about tonight that I could brush my teeth after I eat meals so I won't snack at night because I don't want to brush my teeth again! Hope it will work, as long as I remember
You have to have will power, decide why you want to lose weight, picture it in your mind. I've lost 13lbs since new year's Day, it will definitely slow down but I will keep going. Think of all the things you want to do, places you want to go. Think of your family. They all want to see you happy.
Thank you that helps a lot! And also congrats on losing 13lbs in 2 weeks, that is amazing! (pay attention to your health though because a faster weight loss rate could be unhealthy, you might lose a lot of muscles...)
