BMI and some other snippets from a book I’m reading

I am reading a book called a Fat and Furious by Steve Bennett at the moment. There is a lot of information and challenges to the current, and past, weight loss assumptions with input from the likes of Dr Malcolm MacKendrick, Dr Jason Fung, Dr David, Unwin, Tim Noakes and many others.

Some interesting nuggets (not chicken though 😊) are:

An acronym for CARBS - Carbohydrates Are Really Bad Sugars

Weight has increased more in the past 50yrs than the previous 1 million.

The BMi scale was highlighted as a one size doesn’t fit all.

BMI is a general scale not worth using (my words) as we know that say a muscular man, or woman, can be classed as obese when patently not. But I never

gave a thought to the fact that it is one scale, not one for women and another for men. Women generally have more body fat and a more slender frame than men so it is likely that women will be overestimated and men overestimated (overall better for men - again!). So it is another blunt tool in our measurement arsenal.

I’ve got it on Kindle (not my favourite way to read but useful) so not easy to skip around the pages but it is an interesting read, The author does follow a paleo diet which is basically LCHF real food.

I love the comment “so this BMI result, according to this medical chart, states really clearly that I’m... ermmm... yes, I’m too short!” 😂
