Need help with staying motivated and staying on track

Hello,

Just wondering if you guys could share tips on staying on track and keeping motivated.

So a little about me is I've always been over weight and in 2017 I managed to get from a size 20 down to a size 12. Most of which I lost in 3 months by working out everyday and even though I dropped dress sizes I still stayed the same weight.

I'm now 14 and a half stone, 5ft 1 inches tall and feeling really really bad about myself and my size. I cant seem to stay motivated and I've always been a comfort eater so when I've had a bad day I always reach of the chocolate (despite being lactose intolerant).

Any advice welcome! I really want to nip this in the bud as soon as I can

As a comfort eater myself, I think you should focus on the root causes of your compulsion, not the effect (weight gain).

For instance, I have 30kg to drop but ONLY NOW, after years of therapy, I understand WHY my entire life I needed to eat all the time to feel happy. Only to feel like trash 30 minutes later.

Answering your question, I`ve been using this website since last week to keep focus on my weight loss. Posting my meals every day, replying to other users, reading their kind comments. For now, I can assure you this is keeping me on track.

I started comfort eating at the age of 10 when all my friends moved away and I was alone. My sister is also a massive issue, her constant negativity towards me always makes me feel like there's no point cause as she says "you'll never stick at it anyway" 😩

You have been dealing with a lot of negativity on a daily basis, mate. It's specially devastating when we need to deal with it at home, coming from a family member who should be our main strength and support in this life. I have a similar situation with my mother. My entire life she would feel better by telling me that I would never ever conquer anything in my life.

Don't fight this alone, ok? Sometimes it`s just too much. It can drain all of your energy.

Look for help from therapists and stay here chatting with us as much as you find comfortable. Let`s do this together.

Wow we are so similar! I'm 5 2 and recently up to 14 and half stone. I've managed to lose half a stone just by stopping my snacking. I've always been a huge emotional eater but I'm doing an MSc in behaviour analysis and learned about self management. I set myself the goal to not snack between meals and used reinforcers (reward) or a punisher. You need to choose something that really matters to you so I chose animal rights. At the end of the month I get to donate 50p for every day I stick to it to a charity of my choice (so far £15 for last month but I loved doing it!!). Each day I fail I have to pay 50p to a fundraiser I oppose! It's a huge motivator for me (and I honestly have zero willpower). You can obviously modify the idea to suit you - use your imagination! Remember the goal has to be clearly defined and achievable and the reinforcer/punisher has to matter to you 👍

I once tired putting money in to a pot of what I wanted to buy/ the same amount of the naughty food I brought over 4 months and then treat myself to something worth while like some new clothes or a concert ticket but I haven't really done that recently

I agree re: weigh ins too and recording what you eat (I use "ate" - a fab app as focuses on your feelings about what you've eaten rather than calories) I need to also start changing my meals and cut down on drinking. I weighed in for first time on here yesterday and hoping some support will help me too 😊
