I am 19 and weigh more than I want to, and I look bad and am not happy with myself to the point where I wear oversized clothes to leave the house (pre lockdown!) I feel sick when I look at myself. I am finding it so hard to lose weight, I have tried everything, eating less, eating healthier, exercising more, walking but nothing is working and if I don't get results I tend to give up. It's getting to the point where I hate my body and looking at it. It's the only thing I think about.
I hope this community can help me, keep me motivated and keep my weight loss journey going!
Currently I weigh 10 st 11 lbs
I want to be around 9 st
So I want to lose nearly 2 st.
Thank you,
2stone2much!

Hi welcome aboard! Sorry you're feeling so down on yourself. My advice is to use a BMI calculator to work out how many calories you need and use a food diary like myfitnesspal to log all your food and exercise. If you stay within your allowance (and eat at the upper end of the range), You Will Lose Weight! 😊 Then it's just a matter of finding what works for you personally. For me, it's low carb, mostly unprocessed foods with intermittent fasting, but everyone's different..
I eat a lot of salad with either eggs, quorn or cheese (full fat cottage cheese, cheddar or halloumi) and veggies like broccoli, cauli, carrots, sprouts, occasionally potatoes and peas, sweetcorn.
I sometimes do omad (one meal a day) or sometimes a longer fast 24-65 hrs depending on how I feel (you learn to tell when you're genuinely hungry). It's taken me a long time to get to the point where I feel comfortable with myself and what works for me (I previously lost around 7st and went from a uk size 24/26 to a sz 8 and still wasn't happy in my own skin! I ended up regaining a lot of it so nowadays I'm trying to be a lot kinder to myself and make changes that I'm happy and willing to keep for well keeps! 😀
Wow! Thanks so much! Honestly this all sounds great! I can eat healthy for a few days and then cave in (case in point I had some chocolate this morning because I feel so terrible) which always just ruins my flow and makes me want to give up. I also want fast results but struggle to always understand that weight loss can't and won't be fast, it's a slow and steady process! How do I build a mindset that allows me to happy with what I am and what I want to be?
For me it's about being kind to myself, trying to treat myself like I would a friend. It's hard because I've always treated myself worse than a dog with rabies! 🤣 Also, once you know your calorie allowance you can factor in treats and still lose weight. So you don't have to feel guilty for having chocolate or whatever.
I keep a gratitude diary too which helps. There's a good gratitude/positive thinking daily thread on here actually.
I hope you reach where you want to be. But you need to ask yourself if seeing 9st on the scales will make you happy inside.
You need to try and learn to love yourself even through this time when you don't feel like you're looking or feeling your best.
Weight loss is mostly a mental challenge so be as strong as you can and I hope you can find some support here
Just from someone else also trying to lose some weight I have cut out absolutely no food groups (proteins and fats make up the majority of my intake, and then complex carbs) and I eat on average every three hours.
There's no one way of doing this but you need to find what works for you and understand that if you want long term results, they aren't going to come quickly.
But trust me, one day at a time and you'll be surprised how quickly the time flies by. <3
