Day 1 today

I've been overweight all my life - not massively but overweight nevertheless. At 5ft 2 I was a standard size 14 weighing 10 stone and was happy with that - Since the Menopause and a hysterectomy I have gained 7 stone! I look like a spacehopper!

So today I start in earnest.....aged 57 and very very unhappy :(

Hi, Boo2020 , welcome.

If you "slim smart" weight loss is not so hard! It is not all about motivation and masochism.

Some of us here find that what works is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:

Welcome Boo :)

Joining in regularly (daily?) will help you stay focused and strong.

Have a look at changing what you've done previously and maybe think about joining one of the Weekly Weigh-ins and the Daily Diary.

Best of luck... you'll get there! :)

Hello and welcome, Boo2020 :)

It's not just you: as we get older, with hormonal changes, our bodies don't cope with carbohydrates in the way they did in our youth. I suggest you think about making some changes to what you eat, rather than keeping your same food and just cutting down on quantity. Here's some reading: take your time and come back with any questions.

Active participation can give you a real boost so I hope we'll see you out and about around the forum, particularly joining a weekly weigh in and using the Daily Diary, where members post their meal plans. You'll find everything you need in our Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Hi Boo2020, nice to have you along as company as we start out in our task to reach summer feeling so much happier. The menopause sucks on one hand but on another, well, it’s bloody marvellous to have it out of the way! Put hysterectomy into the mix plus the weight gain I’m not surprised you feel as you do. It’s temporary. It can all be assigned to the ‘that was then’ book. Then when you look back and see how far you’ve actually come, what’s in front won’t feel so daunting. 😊
