stopped smoking and put on a lot of weight
Hi, maucam79 , welcome.
I am 70.
If you "slim smart" weight loss is not so hard! It is not all about motivation and masochism.
Some of us here find that what works, without counting anything, is a combination of The Low Carbohydrate, High-Fat (LCHF) diet (see the forum here on Health Unlocked) and Not Snacking All Day AKA Intermittent Fasting (IF). See:

Hello and welcome, maucam79 Well done with the smoking.
It's likely that cutting down won't help, but changing what you eat will. Here are a couple of things that might help

You'll find loads of support and information on the forum. I recommend joining a weekly weigh in and using the Daily Diary, where members share their meal plans. You'll find them, and everything else you need, in our Pinned Posts healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...
Active participation can give you a real boost so I hope I see you out and about around the forum
Hi maucam and welcome
Congrats on giving up smoking and for so long too Not easy and I bet you're proud of yourself. I hope that looking after your mother isn't too stressful and that you have 'you time' organised as well.
You may have noticed that the theme of the responses is about eating in a different way and not so much about eating less and moving more. People coming across that concept often shun the idea without even investigating (been there done that ).
I hope you take the time to read the links and allow your mind to be open whilst you do so.
Anyway, regardless of the path you go down, joining in here regularly is what helps us get through the difficult times and there are always difficult times.
If you haven't already, then in the short term, I would suggest joining in with one of the Weekly Weigh-ins and with the Daily Diarys, where you'll find lots of great friendly support.
Good luck!
Thank you so much started day 1 today. I think my problem was my different life style and the cold weather did not lend me to go and do my daily walks. Did a 30 minute walk today and hope to continue with , Also to stop snacking on crips and sweets. Thank you again for your advice.
